Can anybody please explain why a diesel motor in a cruisers is labeled Volvo penta but right next to that on the same label say detroit power? If your familiar with this motor are they known to be good? Reliable? And would I have the same issues with getting a Volvo tech?
Over the years Volvo marine has used many major venders for the base engine not always their own. like marinizing GM small block v8 for their outdrives as did Mercruiser little hard to see but looks like a 60 series label?
From what I'm reading the 63 series volvo penta was a bullet proof motor. But parts are very expensive
A Volvo model 63 would make it TAMD engine it’s the predecessor to the D6 we have. They do have a pretty good reputation. Volvo parts are expensive, but aren’t all marine diesel parts?
Cant find much on a volvo marinized version but worked on many DD60 series in the 1990s in trucks. Detroit lead the way with electronic controlled diesels with the 60 series. They had some sensor and contol issues but overall a solid engine in trucks have you got the specific volvo model numbers?
What year and model is the Cruisers? I have a 2005 with the tamd75 and they perform well. Parts are expensive, but available.
My dockmate had a 1999 Carver 53 with TAMD's. They smoked like crazy, but gave him no other problems...
Smoke like crazy lol I dunno if I'm interested in that... its a 2000 4270? It's local and just kinda thought i would peek at it too give me just another option. The layout is good. Keeps the kids on the other end of the boat so when I come in at 2am of the docks I can about my wife if ya know what I mean
