hi, i have a 77 sea ray with a mercruiser engine 302 and want to put in a mercedes inline 6 engine i wanted to know if it would line up with the prop and how i would install the exaust, every answer would be helpfull thanks

What model and HP rating is the Mercedes. Gas or diesel?
With what you have given for info the short answer is no.

Can you find a water cooled exhaust manifold for the Mercedes. If so then through the transom may be the easiest way to go. I have no clue how you will line up the gimbal shaft or if the alpha one can take the new engine. Prop dimensions will be your least worries.

Have you measured the bilge? Yours should be similar to mine and there isn't a lot of forward room ahead of my 302. Sounds like more work and money than replacing the 302 with a reman.

This is only my opinion as I have the same vintage boat. Stranger things have been grafted together.

thanks, i wanted to put the mercedes engine in because the 302 starts up fine but after running for about 15 min and turning it off, i cant get it to start up, after like an hour i can start it up just fine, what could that be from since i cant really put in the other engine

It could be anything from carb choke to distributor advancement stuck. Fuel issues like partially plugged fuel lines and vapor lock can also trouble this vintage boat. If you are now using the new bio-fuel then fuel line and carb rubber part break down may be an issue.

Whatever the problem a good technician should be able to help you out. Way cheaper than repowering the boat. In my opinion.
Good luck.
