what's it mean when your antifreeze is running out that ball's orange tube? I ran motor on hose and then drained an tried antifreeze and was pouring out water distrib?

Ok maybe its not called the distributer. It part of the single point drain system on a horizon motor.

Is the knob closed? If so, you may have freeze damage in the water distribution housing. Search BTdoctur posts for a considerably less expensive alternative to the $200+ mercury part.

verify that the valve is closed first. If yes and still leaking it can be replaced with copper fittings soldered together and a threaded drain bushing soldered to the bottom. The bushing I can supply

Well it really hasnt been that cold yet to freeze damage that. I warmed up the motor with a fresh water feed in to the strainer just fine. I did the drain technique, removed all blue plugs and pumped air in. Then had my AF container full and fed the strainer and started engine, wife was on ground and after most of AF was out of container, nothing coming out exhausts? Side or bottom. Im going to check muffler to see if any AF got through to it and remove a blue plug or two to see how far AF got.
Only other thing I can think of is I may have forgot to release that pressure valve on the air pump gizmo. It looks like the AF was coming out of the little orange tube at bottom of water housing.
What does that thing do anyway

There is a plug on the water distribution housing which evacuates the last bit of water in the bottom of the housing.

I had everything drained except for pulling that one plug which left a small amount of water that froze and cracked the housing on mine. The plastic is weak and it doesn’t take much freezing time to crack.

I pull the hoses off the thermostat housing and fill the antifreeze directly into the hoses until antifreeze purges back out of the thermostat housing. This is usually accompanied by a small amount of water being pushed out before the antifreeze returns.

the water distribution housing is the part which brings together all of the cooling system into a single drain. Most do not like the system as it is an iffy way to drain your cooling system. What happens is that debris gets sucked into the raw cooling system and creates a blockage which may go unnoticed.

you open the drain and water comes out so you think you are okay but not all of the water is evacuated and you learn how much and where by assessing the freeze damage after the fact.

Mi single point system is a different design but the problems remain the same. I maintain it by back flushing the cooling system occasionally and reaming out any obstructions. I also measure how much water drains out of the engine so I know I got it all out.

Well thanks a lot for the information. I was able to finish the port engine today, it was spitting pink so i think im good.

Spitting where? What does that mean?

I’m glad you don’t have to replace this cheaply made part which cost a small fortune.

That look really durable, how does it attach to the block?

Sorry, AF comming out both exhausts, bottom and side. I dont know what it was, I just checked cool fuel blue plug and it had AF running out, but the big can muffler did not, it was just a little clear water. i thin it was a feed issue from the 5 gal AF container in to the strainer maybe.
