Water leaking under center pulley into bilge

Is it a small hose in diameter? Could be your Speedo hose. If it' not in use it may have a plug on the end which looks like it broke from something. If so then normal.

Lazy Daze, I guess I should have looked further into the man I bought it from replacing the engine 20 hours ago. Seems like that is exactly what happened. Im not too concerned with the replacement as its a strong engine and Im partial to Volvo Penta over Merc anyway, and I got a great deal on the boat, so stock engine or not, Im happy.

with regards to the hose, did you take a look at the engine manual photo I posted a few posts back? thats the same hose. I will try to snap a pic in a few days (raining here in Northern NV and the boat has been covered since yesterday and its supposed to rain through tomorrow) and post so I can get some thoughts on what it is.

Thanks for the replies, by the way.

I agree that the engine is what it is. But it was a mystery!

Yes, I looked at the photo. It's too big to be a speedo hose (and coming from the wrong place). It's about the right size for a remote oil drain hose... but the hose would be attached to the oil pan drain plug in that case, which it is not. I DID find mention of a "flywheel hose" in some Eurpoean online parts catalog... but no mention of what it is for.

Best thing might be to call a Volvo dealer with your engine model and serial number and ask them.

Not to get too fixed on the Volvo engine, if it is working great, but now it is a curiosity for me. So what kind of outdrive does it have?
