So tomorrow is another sunny day with another small craft advisory all day. Anyone notice these seem to be constant this year? Every other day is rain, wind or sca. Even the wife said its been a not so good boating summer this year. Fine in the rivers. Not so much for Bay travel.

My in-laws have been boating since 1986. We were talking about how every so often we get a crappy summer like this one. Nothing you can do about it.

Same here. Wanted to go out last night, supposed to be a good day. Then all of a sudden, small craft advisory and 25mph winds. And the best kind of wind, blowing straight sideways

As a bonus, the marina decided to park a brand new 420 Whaler with 3 v-12 outboards directly across from me (in a 35' slip).

In a strange way it makes you appreciate the good days.

It does seem every weekend has some kind of bad weather advisory to it this summer. I've been on the boat every weekend but not out every weekend ... Only been up to Fairly twice this year. :(

Agreed. If it was sunny, the wind was way up. If the wind was down, it friggin rained. Crap summer weather wise.

Had many days of great weather on Lake Erie.
Unfortunately we missed almost all of them.

We had 6 days planned over Labor day, the weather was great and we got covid... Quarantined for 14 days, not happy.

I had two "big trips" planned this year. The first was four days to the south, cut short by one day due to nasty conditions. My second trip was supposed to be 10 days to the north, completely cancelled due to waves. It's my first time in seven years owning a cruiser boat that I had to completely cancel a family trip due to waves.

We still have had a great summer but yeah...the wind has been a bit of a bummer at times.

To me the moral of this summers story is that I need to figure out a way to retire in less than 20 years. I need more time to work around crappy weather on the lake :)

Yup, been a shitty summer in the north(ish) too. Seemed like almost every weekend was bad weather. Then through-out the week would be nice

From a meteorological standpoint our entire summer on the eastern seaboard has been approaching fronts calm wind rain, front moves through bluebird sunshine and wind, if we can keep high-pressure sitting around for a few days you’ll get the bluebird sun and light wind, just a pattern we’re in right now this was not a great boating summer weather wise. And in the Northeast the fall is usually the roughest weather wind wise out of the north

The left coast has had an awesome spring and summer...
It has been a strange year in Nor-Cal, some extended periods of extreme heat for sure but in Benicia we have noticed a much stronger and prevailing wind which has made for fewer opportunities for enjoyable evening cocktail cruising down the strait. One thing I have come to understand over the fifty years I have lived in the area though is, this is all cyclical and the "norm will return for a bit before it changes again. I remember times when the reservoirs where at historic low levels due to back to back drought conditions and the "experts warned that it will take ten years for recovery. The next winter saw the dams dangerously close to breaching and the same "experts" were warning of catastrophic flooding. Bottom line is no one actually knows WHAT the future holds. Biden's assertion that things will only get worse if "we" don't do something about it, is just so ignorant if not intellectually dis-honest. To suggest that legislating human behavior can change the weather is hubris to the extreme! I am not denying that China and India and the third world shit holes on the planet that are polluting the earth's environment with out check is not contributing in some way to the health of the eco system, but to suggest that passing laws that change the way we exist in America will be a big part of a global solution is just folly. I get that we should set an example as being the world's leader...... Oh I forgot, the US is a terrible place and should not be seen as a leader:mad::mad::mad::mad:
Carpe Diem

As the wife said to me, with all the repairs down time we haven’t missed much cause of the weather. 3 months self-repair fiasco, 2 weeks at marina with pros. I asked them today what up. Boat is all assembled but waiting on one part on back order, arriving Tuesday, launch Wednesday, so maybe i will get lucky and have nice weather till November.
Got half a mind to have them leave it blocked for winter where it is and fix the rest of things i want done this winter. Upgrade all gauges, few other items, and write off this year.

I’m glad we haven’t had a Bermuda high pressure system stall over the east coast for a month and a half. I’d rather boat in the wind than cook in 100 degree still air with an 80 degree dew point.

I’m like an old porch dog, love it hot. Once it gets below 55 I’m miserable. November- March i hating life. I have to wear socks god forbid.

Eastern Washington had a heck of a heat wave. Usually we get two weeks near or over 100 degrees in late July / August. This year we hit 100 degrees in June and it was hot until mid august. We had 116 degrees in June which is a near all time high record for around here. Too hot to be on the boat when the water temps are still in the 50's! Fortunately we had weddings, retirement parties and other things that kept us busy and off the water anyway!

Well if it makes you feel better. We had a great summer … every long weekend was perfect… got a 2 week vacation in with no day rain.
