What are WINTERIZING costs in your area?

We’re lucking out with one more nice weekend. The fall colors are in and supposedly it’s going to be in the mid to high 70s Saturday. I’m going to winterize on the 16th. We shouldn’t have a hard freeze by then.

I don’t have the systems like most of you, but doing it myself by replacing fluids, filters, gas treatment and fill up is laid out like this. Rough costs off top of my head.

$25 1 gallon of Quicksilver oil
$35 2 quarts of HP Gear Lube
$15 1 fuel filter
$15. 1 oil filter
$5. 2 outdrive filler plug gaskets
$40. 1 Gallon SeaFoam for gas
$20. 3.5 gallons of pink stuff AF

and

$200. Non-oxy fill up

The boat I am considering moving up to would be similar with one motor and a Bravo 3, however it would have a vacuflush as well as water systems which I currently do not have. I have zero experience with those.

For my 52DB, its $495 + antifreeze to winterize everything.

Oil changes are $145/engine + oil/filters.

Just had a quote this weekend from the guy that does my shrink wrap every year. $12/ft, up from the $10/ft for the last three years. Still pretty good in my book. Offered $80 to winterize the outboard. Same as last four years offer, though I've only taken him up on it once...

edit: should probably add the $25/month for outside storage, as keeping it at a yard with cameras is new this year. It used to be in my back yard, which took up 1/3 of my yard space.

The main marina on Lake Coeur d'Alene (Hagadone) charges $450 per engine not sure what that includes. I've heard they have tons of extra charges and add-ons, like $75 per faucet and ice makers, and $150 for each AC unit. They even charge for the pink that goes down the vac-u-flush.
I just can't fathom giving them that much money. I dont keep track of every dollar but I know its way south of a marina

I am trying a new place this year…. Indoor heated in a new building 45’ x 14’ x $3.99 = $2500. And 24 access… hard to believe but so looking forward to it. includes haul out and power wash and launch. The boat has to be trailered a couple miles but it’s done that before
That is a good price, I'm paying $4,700 for the same. Mine starts with boat width plus a foot, 14+1 X 45 x 5.50 = 3,712.50. The owner is easy to get along with, access is 24/7, I lived in the boat a couple weeks last spring.

I've got to run 120 miles to storage in the fall and from it in the spring. 240 extra miles each year at this summers fuel prices is another 800-900 that should be added to my storage cost...so now I'm around 5,600 bucks, double yours:eek:

That's insanely cheap @Blueone! I'm right at $2600 for indoor cold, 24/7 access. They winterize her, I change my fluids and filters, then cover her with plastic sheeting to keep the dirt off.

I've been tempted to pay a bit more (and a lot of fuel $$$), to go indoor heated up by @Stee6043, but the limited M-F office hours access is keeping me where I am...

I am currently at the cheapest joint in the Grand Haven area for indoor heated. They finally pushed us from $4.75 up to, I think, $5.25 this year. Still a bargain when most of the bigger marinas are at or above $7 now. The best part for me is the 24/7 access. I'm at my boat just about every Saturday AM Feb thru April.

The bummer for you would certainly be the distance. October is not the time of year you typically want to cover a lot of ground, on a schedule, on Lake Michigan. A slew of my dock neighbors used to store in Muskegon because it was/is cheaper than Grand Haven. They all stopped a few years back because it became such a hassle trying to time a weather window for the trip to Muskegon in late October. And that's only 10 miles to cover! :)

One of my dock neighbors in a gorgeous 43' Tiara just went up your way Monday.

The nail in the coffin for me, aside from the 24/7 access issue, is its a 4hr drive from home, vs a 2hr where I am now.

So I'll continue to brave the cold...the wife laughs at me because I keep a pair of slippers onboard for winter visits.

@Blueone your guys need to open a place near southern Lake Michigan!

Ya I have a lot of unknowns. This storage place is a landlocked well known boat repair place. He bought a corn field and put up quite a few buildings. He uses a Marina lift in what must be an arranged agreement to pull and drop boats ..then trailers them down the road a few miles. My dock neighbors like it…. So why not try it…. What could go wrong?

$450 per engine? I'm in the wrong business!

What are you considering moving up to Ollie?

270 Amberjack, possibly, maybe, hopefully. A friend of mine mentioned going larger and selling his. It would be great for how we boat on Lake Superior. So we’ll see. As I mentioned in another thread, I have a kid heading to college next Fall, so there’s that.

3 bucks for 6 mos of haulout/powerwash/blocks/shrinkwrap at the marina.

Last year it was 2 bucks to have the marina winterize both engines/gen/water systems. Doing it myself this year, so much less

Not to go off topic even further, but I don't understand why anyone pays a shop to do the fresh water winterization. I can understand the engines if you're not a DIYer, but the freshwater systems in most cases is as simple as drain, add some antifreeze, flush through, done. You literally do this every time you add fresh water to your tank, or empty out your holding tank. There's no magic to it. I love the look in friends faces when I show them how simple it is.

To answer your question, I paid about $1,000 for twin 5.7 Stern drives, ac, freshwater systems, etc. one time for a 32' boat when I didn't have time to get to it to do myself and it was going to freeze that weekend.

Sorry i cant link good on iPhone.
If you have a cockpit shore water fitting, get from amazon a Camco brass blowout fitting ($7 amazon). Install in shore water outlet. First drain hot water tank, then hook up a 12v tire inflator ($30 amazon), open each faucet one at a time, turn on pump. Winterize freshwater system in 15 mins. Done.
