i had an interesting experience yesterday while driving to work...it was 6:30 AM and i was driving my Porsche Boxster for the first time this year since it was going to be 72* and sunny later in the day....i was on an open stretch of a 4 lane highway about 2 miles from home going between 55-60 mph in the right hand lane.....it was still dark at this time....

all of a sudden out of nowhere something slammed into the back of the Porsche jolting me and the car forward violently....i looked in the rear view mirror and suddenly saw a pair of headlights come on that were taller than the car....there were no signs of any headlights prior to the impact.....so i immediately tried to slow down to pull off the road to see what had happened but the vehicle that hit me stayed in contact with the car and was pushing me....then it backed off slightly and rammed me a couple more times.....i was initially confused and dazed as my head jerked and hit the head rest of the seat pretty hard and i was not sure exactly what was going on....i was finally able to swerve to get off the road.....then i saw a black Ford F250 go flying by and speeding away from the scene.....i was not able to get a tag number but i did get a decent look at the truck in my headlights....

so i sat on the side of the road for a few mins to get my thoughts together....since i was so close to my home i drove the car back there and told my wife what had happened....

i spent the rest of the day filing police reports and insurance claims and getting my car towed to a reputable repair shop that handles high end cars....

the Sheriff is treating this as an 'assault' since it seems clear it was intentional....this was not a case of road rage....this happened on an open section of the 4 lane highway where the left hand lane was open if someone wanted to pass me.....

what in the hell is wrong with people these days?....

Wow, that's scary! I'm glad you're OK and it didn't escalate... could've got much worse.

Sorry about your Porsche too.

Wow. Glad you are ok.

Cliff,

I'm glad you are okay. It was bound to be someone strung out on drugs or alcohol. With 325 million people in the US .... there are probably a lot more of these idiots out there.

My wife and I were coming back from NJ on Easter a few years ago in our Dodge Ram 2500. We were in a long line headed southbound when a Jeep crossed the median and struck our vehicle in the left front wheel and driver's door. I was driving. The impact broke the steering linkage on our truck which careened us across the median into oncoming traffic. The Jeep proceeded to strike three more cars (totaled all of them) before coming to a stop. Typical story: 2x the limit, no insurance and multiple DUIs.

These people are a menace. Hopefully they find the person before he kills someone.

Holy crap Cliff! People are just crazy. Obviously it was not an accident. I wonder if it was just someone that just had a chip on their shoulder about something and took it out on you. Glad you are ok, hope there is not too much damage to the Porsche.

I had something similar happen a few years ago. Guy pulled up next to me at a red light in a old buick LeSabre, chrome 22" wheels, rap music blaring - you know the stereotype. I tried not to make eye contact, but I guess he didn't like something. Light turned green - both lanes were left turn, I was on the outside he was inside and just rammed me - last I saw of him was him hauling a$$ and I could tell he was laughing. Last laugh was on me - another drive had been videoing him since he passed a stopped school bus and was driving erratically earlier. That person stopped and gave me the video to show to the police. Justice for him was swift - they found him and the stolen car at an apartment complex not far away. Of course no insurance, suspended license, the whole drill.

Glad you are ok, hope they catch the other driver.

For some reason some people hate Porsches and their owners. when we owned our '89 911 Cab I was amazed at the negative, nasty comments some people would make towards us and our car. I just never understood....

Glad you're OK. Keep us updated on the outcome....if any.

Damn Cliff, I have no answer for people nowadays. Glad you're ok. Hope they find the A$$HOLE!!!!

Used to live in NC...... what highway?

Hopefully there's some traffic cams in the area.

If someone hit my 911 like that they need to make dam sure I'm out of commission or I'm going to use that car to track them down and ..........

hwy 521 between Lancaster, SC and Charlotte, NC....there is a small store and used car lot beside where the incident took place...the Deputy was going to go by both to see if there is any camera footage....

Wow Cliff ..glad you’re ok.

Drugs man. For sure. My wife bought me a dash cam for my birthday this year. It fires up automatically every time I get in the car now.

Glad you’re OK I just got anxiety imagining your story that’s why everybody needs to have dash cam these people have to be stopped

Cliff, I'm sorry you had that experience. It's scary to think about and it's happening more and more frequently. I'm glad you're OK.

Not necessarily drugs, just the common (or uncommon) case of road rage. Right here in Phoenix a couple of days ago a road rage incident led to the bad guy following a family to their home. He stopped on the street when the family pulled into their driveway and shot their car, seriously injuring the 2 year old in the car seat in the back.

I think this is a "spin off" of all the political hatred that's pulling our country apart these days. Nobody likes anyone else, nobody has patience for others, nobody tolerates others' political viewpoints, etc.

A sad part of what's going on in our country are all the senseless shootings at schools, places of business, shopping malls and on
the highways.

I wish I had an answer.

I wondered the same thing, as we occasionally see hints of this in West Michigan. On balance though, the people around here are fairly conservative and well mannered. The most common form of harassment we get (which is not often) is pick up trucks in front of us driving on a gravel shoulder so they can fill our car up with dust when the top is down. Easy to avoid these idiots by slowing down or turning off the road. Glad the OP is ok.

Not to get off topic but being the owner of a pick up truck I find people can’t stand to be behind in front of on the side of any pick up truck especially here in New York They think you’re a good old boy and will do anything to maneuver around a pick up truck and extend very little courtesy when I need to merge or maneuver myself forces me to drive a little bit aggressive just to get what I need done while driving it’s a Vicious cycle

I know what you mean. I got it figured out though....the guys drivin' those little sports cars worry that at a red light their women will escape and hop in the pickup truck...them gals fantasize about us ya' know.:D

thanks for all the replies....

once i calmed down and determined i was OK i got VERY upset to what this A-hole did to my beautiful car.....it was in mint condition with only 22K miles on an '04 model...it is slotted to be my primary ride once i retire in a couple months....luckily the truck bumper was much taller than the car so most of the damage looks to be in the trunk and rear fenders....it could have been a lot worse if he hit me down low where the engine exhaust and frame are...i am hoping to hear good news from the repair shop that it was just mostly sheet metal, paint, a rear taillight and rear spoiler that was damaged....
