It looks like after 9 years and some great times I am going to sell my very clean, low hours ( 150) 22 Sundeck and I am trying to nail down a fair asking price. I have used NADA and I'm wondering if there is anyplace else or what most people shopping will look at? Obviously I use KBB for cars but was not sure what is considered the standard for boats. NADA has "average retail" at almost 40k loaded up the way mine is. Seemed like that might be a little high and it did not take into consideration the extremely low hours. Thoughts before I post it in here?

NADA has decent online price guides.

I have had good luck with BoatTraider.com, boats.com, and craigslist. Boat prices for run-a-bouts vary widely based o location and local demand. Here locally my boat lists for 10K more in the Tulsa lake area vs Oklahoma City. and that is only a 100 mile difference.

Good luck

You'll want to look at prices for all similar boats regardless of the manufacturer on CL, boat trader, boats.com, etc. to get an idea of what the market will bear. You can't price a boat like a car. For example, a 2006 Honda Accord will have a very specific price that is different than a 2005 or a 2007 Accord. This is not the same for boats.

You can start by trying to find other 2006 220SD's for sale but if there is no inventory you need to look at other brands for a comparison.

You average boat buyer is not shopping for a specific brand and model year to start with (some are, most are not). Most people start with a budget then look for boats in that price range that fit their needs. For example, they will consider a 2002 23' Chapparal against a 2006 22' Sea Ray and determine which one checks the boxes on their wish list. If there are two boats that are generally identical with features and price, the buyer will choose the Sea Ray because of the resale and reputation.

This type of shopping is much different than cars. Most people start the car buying process by going to a specific make, model and year.

Thanks for the feedback. It's a 2010. Local dealer threw me a low ball offer of 22k. Average retail for NADA is 40k. The boat is just loaded. I'm the second owner. The first owner ordered it and just went nuts with options. The sticker was over 70k new. It's got the upgraded mesh seats, a $2000 Fostgate sound system that is better than most high end cars, etc etc. There was nothing they did not put on this boat. They traded it in after one year and 40 hours on a Sundancer so they took the big bath. I "bought it right" as they say. It's getting cleaned up and pictures today. I'll figure out a list price but based on condition, (9 out of 10) and location, (the boat is located on the biggest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi), I'm thinking the number is mid 30's. There is high demand for these boats here and now is the season. It's been an awesome boat and like many who say "the best day was when I sold it blah blah" , I don't feel that way. I've had zero issues with it and it's been a joy to own and use. I can see now why Sea Ray has the reputation it has.

Go to this site and type in your boat nationwide. Make a list of boats with similar age and features. Make note of what state. Subtract heavily (in my opinion) for any salt water boats. I did this before buying my boat last week, a 2003 176 SRX. Boats even 4-5 years difference in age was still about a $500 range in pricing.

From people I know in the boat manufacturing business In Florida I have learned that the 2010 boat like yours might even be a better find than a newer one. Also the Sea Ray factory in my town closed last year so I've heard a lot about the quality, a factor when I shopped for boats....

For what it's worth I just did a quick search for 220's on boat trader.

It seems like a mid-$30k list price would be reasonable if your boat is above average in terms of condition, hours and options.

It's worth noting that all of us who've invested thousands in our stereo systems would/should appreciate that they are worth approximately one six pack of good beer when we go to resell the boat :)

In Colorado, where there is no water, a good boat costs double the NADA. NADA seems to be for salt water boats with high hours and sun bleached seats.

Thanks for the research and yes there are many options that don't mean much on resale. The good news is I didn't pay for them on the front end. NADA didn't have the "mesh seat option" ( forgot what they are called) on the pull down list. I'm sure those are not cheap.

I think your right on the money at mid 30's. Possibly a bit higher with the low hours and all the documentation etc. The trailer might have all of 200 miles on it as the boat has only ever been used the Flathead Lake ( one of the cleanest freshwater's in the world).

All is good above.

It really depends on how fast you want to sale.

If you price it higher then the competition be willing to sit on it for a while and I bet someone looking ..... after they looked at all the rest....... will come along and want yours.

It took almost 2 years to sale my 2011 260 DA but that didn't keep me from using and enjoying the boat and I got a pretty reasonable offer after a good 5 years of use.

For what it's worth, you will know you have it priced right when the phone starts to ring. Sounds like mid 30s is the market if the folks chiming in here are right. The comment about starting above that may be a good strategy, unless your phone does not ring after listing it at that price. If no calls after 3 weeks, drop the price and listen for the calls. Still not ringing? Your price is too high.

Here is another thought. Find a broker in your market that sells lots of boats. If you have one that specializes in SRs that is better yet. Ask if he/she is interested in your listing and if so, how the listing price should be determined. Brokers have access to sale prices of used boats. The broker I used emailed me a list of recent selling prices for my specific model including links to the listings. It proved to be very accurate. My boat sold before it was listed within a few dollars of its price.

Montanaman, our family currently has a 98' Sea Ray 185 BR and are looking to upgrade to a 220 Sundeck (possibly 2010-or later); I'm not a broker, but would you want to provide contact info so that we can talk (I'm in Colorado)?
