I am in the process of ungrading the stereo from the original Clarion. My wish list is a new stereo with XM(Sirius) and a new helm remote. So why is it I need to add an external module for the XM. I would think that the stereo would have this self-contained as they do in a car stereo...or am I wrong about the car stereo not having an external module that I just can't see:huh:. Could anyone help me with this. I am still open to ideas as I think I will have to make a new mounting board in the cabin.

Thanks,

Nearly all (if not all) of the satellite radio's are add on modules. Even in cars with factory satellite radio.

You just stuff the satellite box back behind the panel; it has no user controls on it.

Thanks for the replies. I figured that I would just mount the sat. module behind the stereo....that said, does anyone have a product they really love, that also has a helm remote? As of now, I am looking to just stick with the clarion, as it would be an easy change-over.

Any of the major brands are good - just check to see that they have a wired remote - and that the model of radio you are looking at supports the wired remote. I went with Pioneer when I changed, simply because I liked the mix of features it offered. The bluetooth audio streaming from my iphone is my favorite feature. I find myself using Pandora via the iphone more than I use the XM or the CD's. I did away with the CD changer completely. With the streaming audio, XM, and compressed audio files (mp3 etc) support on the CD, I didn't see the need for the changer anymore. And I've never missed it.
