When I was pulling up the anchor this weekend the foot pedal seemed to stick in the on position and once the anchor reached the top, the windless would not stop and was chattering and finally stopped. Now there is no response from either foot pedal and the up and down switches at the helm only click and the windless will not respond. I have checked the forums and have looked at the breaker in the blidge and fuse in the anchor locker and all are fine. Any other suggestions are very much appreciated.

Last time I saw this happen (on friend's boat) the breaker popped. I don't know if it's the proper term, but it's a wierd looking breaker with small pin and reset handle. The easiest way to see if all other components are fine, take the volt meter and test the windlass while someone works the pedals. If you get juice, then it's either bad ground or something at the windlass side.

Thanks Alex...where was the breaker located?

I would think the breaker would trip before the motor burned out? At least I hope that is the case.

I am the friend Alex is referring to... And thanks to Alex's ingenuity, he used a wire to temporary jump the 90 AMP BUSS breaker, so we could retrieve the anchor... The breaker is more of a fuse than a breaker. Once it tripped it has to be replaced... I bought the replacement on E-bay... I probably should have replaced it with a breaker that I could reset, but I found the exact same breaker. BTW, you might want to fix your foot switch before you replace the breaker...

I had this happen the weekend after 4th of july. The anchor swivel jammed on the bow roller and track. My foot switches went dead, and I could hear the relays clicking at the helm controls, but no activity with the windlass itself. Breaker under the dash was fine, and nothing popped in the batter switch pannels. Looking through here I found out about the breaker on the solenoid in the bilge. That was what had popped and after resetting it (not replacing) it was fine. Back to normal.

That sounds exactly what I was referring to.

Alex and James you guys were spot on! Thank you for your help! I was unaware of the additional breaker. I flipped it today and the windless fired right up, however the "up" foot swtich is stuck and the windless won't shut off. I am not sure if there is a fix for this other than to replace?

Try to take it apart and clean the contacts. Chances are it's just a corrosion build up.

Thankfully I haven't faced that one yet. Guessing the switch might need to be replaced, but cant hurt to check the wire connections are secure, and no corrosion. Didnt get as far as looking for/at the relays, but one of those may be corroded or stuck as well. That happend to the relays that are in remote control box which operates the lift my boat is on (luckily it was stuck open so the lift just wouldnt go up or down though.) I think the combo of 12v and lots of potential current in the windlass scenario might spook me out of getting too inquisitive probing around into things on my own though.
