I am looking into installing a windless. While looking in the rode locker, I found in the black plastic conduit a fairly large white wire which to me looks like household Romex wire. This wire appears to run inside one side of the locker and out the other side. I did remove a panel in the clothes closet on the starboard side and again found what looks like the same wire, as a matter of fact I found 2 wires of the same type running from the bow to the stern. Could these wires be a prewired gift for a future windless and how can I verify? I have already contacted, before I found these wires, Sea Ray with my boats serial # and they told me that boat was not prewired for a windless but that was before I found these wires.

The wire your looking for would be heavy guage like an oversized battery cable - the marine version is very expensive - it would be doubtful the factory wasted any of it on a boat that does not have a winless - perhaps the wire you found was for the winlass controlls or a spotlite?

I don't think its the spotlight. I had to replace mine and the wire is closer to data cable with 3 pairs of small gauge wire. Its also a proprietary part provided by the spotlight maker. I don't think you fond a windlass wiring harness. It might be the forward nav lights. you might pull one of those and see if it matches your mystery wire. If you have a clamp on amp meter you could also test the cable by turning the nav lights on.

Here is a link to some pictures of the 280 windlass wiring. Do any of your wire look like the stuff in the first two pictures?
