I have a 2001 Lofrans Progress 1 windlass. I need the whole finger assembly. Spring, Post, washer and cap nut. Willing to buy complete unit is necessary.

Switch over to all chain and you don't need the finger assembly.

BTW, best of luck in finding those parts.

Yeah. Many of us have gone through this. The parts are no longer made and as far as I know, no-one has been able to find a source of any existing inventory.

You'll either need to have a machine shop fabricate a new finger, or as @CaptRonn mentioned, switch over to all chain rode.

The only alternative, would be to upgrade to a Project 1000 windlass, which costs about a boat buck.

I was looking around. Defender has a part that looks like it will allow you to convert 8mm to 9mm and use newer parts, but I'll have to call to see exactly what they are selling. I can get a 9mm finger on ebay, and the spring are availably but pricey. Anybody try this?

I think I can fab a finger from some aluminum stock fairly easily if nothing else.

Problem for me I may anchor in fairly deep water 40-60 feet so I'll need a ton of chain...literally!

I just ordered the nut, cap, spring, and post from Imtra. They had them in stock. The finger is the part you're going to have trouble finding.

    List Price:$9.25 Each

Spring for Dorado, Marlin, Progress 1/2 for 8mm

    Item:LWPPF007
    List Price:$20.50 Each

    Washer M8 Uni 6592, #226
    Item:LWPCP006
    List Price:$0.60 Each

Cap nut self locking M8 UNI 5722, #242b
    Item:LWPPF004

    I spoke with:

Maybe he can help you convert to the new pressure finger kit or find you a used finger.

Funny I spoke with him today as well. I think I located a finger, so I bought it, but will have to see if it’s correct when it arrives.

Anybody have the part number for the finger?

    Maybe LWPPF005?

Of course the stud is broken off in the base. I started to drill it out today but the rain cut it short. Try again tomorrow.

I saw those on ebay and ordered one as well. The dude should have about 7 left. Whoever installs it first gets to report back :)

Careful on that stud - some are not screwed in but rather pressed in and retained with a set screw in the side of the housing. There are a couple of threads on this from about two years ago.

The old base has the post that screws in, the newer style has the post held in place by a set screw.

Seems the spring on this Progress 1 is a part to keep around. For $26 I am ordering two. Does anyone have a good source for a replacement handle? The part is LWP833A but I am sure others will work. $111 seems way high. Just had my rode splice redone and first time out it jammed. I f-ing hate windlasses. :)

Mine Is the older style, screw in , no set screw. I ordered the finger online, but not sure of the hole diameter. Once I get it, Ill order the post and spring, but I may have to have a custom post machined. Of course getting the old stud out might be a chore..it’s corroded in place.

Might pull it apart and have a shop do the whole mess.

Much cheaper than a new windlass or 200 ft of chain.

I am pleased to report that the finger, mentioned by @dtfeld does indeed fit the earlier Progress 1 (8 mm screw in stud). The dude only has 5 left, so get them while they are hot.

The new finger is shaped slightly differently than the original, but it fits with the original spring and stud and appears to put good tension on the rode.

Guys, I reached out to Tom at IMTRA and he has been very helpful. Wanted to share the response below:

Few questions. Will the revised post need to have a newer style finger, nut and washer? I read somewhere that the newer version is 9mm.

    No, this post is a retro-fit for your vintage windlass with 8mm finger/spring set-up. The post-2002 set-up is 9mm.

Second, when removing my old post I saw a caution that some of them are simply threaded in and some are pushed in and have a set screw. How do I know which one I have? I am hoping the older model (’97,’98) is the one that is simply threaded.

They used the threaded post until 2002.

Also, if my post and finger are fine, would it be best to just replace the spring? I don’t want to risk breaking this post while trying to take it out if there is no immediate need.

If you find it easy to remove the old post you may want to swap it out. This retro-fit post is manufactured to be stronger than the old style which had a tendency to break or bend. The fear is that if your old post breaks and the finger goes overboard, you have a much bigger problem. The finger is no longer available.

Actually, it’s better to switch to the post LWPPF003A which is easier to install and stronger than the original version, LWPPF003

That's good info thanks. I think I will go ahead and swap out the post as well, and keep the old one as a spare.

Actually, my 2000 400DA had the press in stud so I know that that feature was before 2002.

Possible that it was swapped by a P.O., or replaced early on under warrantee?

Received mine today...8mm hole. Ordered a spare and 2 sets of stud/spring/washer/cap nut. Hoping this will get me a few years down the road and I can replace on a schedule.

Now to drill out that damn frozen stud...
