    Re: Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Seevee: That particular gauge is no longer available from Sea Ray. However, you may be able to find it through googling, ebay, or flounder pounder marine-type surplus stores, etc. There is an alternate part might still be available, though, thru Sea Ray (your local dealer). It's very similar, but the numbers on the gauge are a little different in their max values:

Part #: 1767744 GAUGE, TELE 4/1 SR5"100PSI 240F VTRIM STB PGT. Try this link for a picture: https://www.compassbbg.com/Compass/E...ts/1767744.GIF

Did you try your local Sea Ray dealer? They should be able to get you this information, too.

    -------------

Chris: This isn't really specific to a 280DA, nor a Sea Ray, as any boat that has an interior can have it updated. The way to do it is to remove the cushions/backrests/etc and take them to a local upholsterer and pick what colors and fabrics you want. You could do this yourself if you're comfortable sewing heavy fabrics.

    -------------

Curtiss: This sounds like something a previous owner may have installed. Myself, I can't think of anything that would look like what you are describing (although a pic would help) and be in that position. Take a look behind the dash and trace the wires and see where they go. What happens when you push it?

What do you guys do about the hours displayed on the gauges when you get new ones? Do they transfer over somehow?

No, they don't transfer. Keep your receipts and simply record the hours when you made the change in your log book. You do have a log book, right? Regardless, the ECM will still have an accurate reading of actual hours. The ECM is the most accurate, anyways - When a used boat comes in on trade, I never check engine hours by the gauges - I always hook up to the ECM. A gauge replacement has no impact on the ECM.

EDIT... Come to think of it... If you have Smartcraft the engine hours "might" show up as accurate on the new one. Honestly, though, I'm not positive - I don't recall from the last time I replaced one.

I'm just wondering what the next buyer will think if the hours have been messed with. Thanks

It's an easy thing to explain and an easy thing for a buyer to understand. It's not a "common" issue, but it's not rare, either. Document it and you're good to go.

you might to want to take a pic of the hour meter reading alongside of something that shows the date such as a cell phone as part of the documentation when the meter was changed.....

Good idea - certainly can't hurt. In the end, this is pretty much a non-issue, though. After all, it's not like you're trying to deceive someone and tell them the engine has lower hours on it than actual (and the ECM still has the real hours and can't be messed with). You're telling them it has more hours on it.

    Lazy Daze,
Thank you for the response. I spoke with the last (original) owner and he did not install anything on the boat other than a garmin (on the port side). I will look behind it and follow the wires as you suggested. I'm not going to push it, it might be an ejection seat!

Be sure to have someone take a video!

If you want, post a picture. Maybe it's something that I'm just not remembering. <<< Boy, that's an awkward sounding sentence!

I think the ambient air temp sensor is in the area below the wheel, unidentified also.
