I'm not sure if yours are the same as a 2005 220SD, but I had one that stuck open. I took it apart, cleaned the gumminess off the shaft, etc., then used some food grade silicone lubricant on the 'O' rings before reassembly. That was a couple of months ago and it's worked fine since then.

Mine's slow, too. I was just reading another thread about that - seems to be common. The theory is there is no vent on the drain (like your house drains have), so it runs slow, especially if you fill the sink up quickly.

"Just did this in my 07 240SD head. West Marine has several faucets that will work. I bought one that is very similar to the bar faucet and had my shipwright install it for $35. You will miss having the sprayer hose to fill your porta potti if you have a pumpout head. I have a length of vinyl tubing I slip over the faucet head to fill my toilet fresh water tank. I assume your sprayer comes on so hard it goes everywhere too!"

any photos of the finished installation?

Good tips, I will take note. I have seen older posts regarding canvas, but I will bring it up again. Anyone have the canvas full enclosure, in blue, for a 2004 240SD? New is too much $$, but want to be able to go out when the weather is iffy and rain is possible or to sit at dock in cooler weather.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Re: 240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Hello, this is my first boat, and I will be having it winterized and stored by the dealer I purchased from. Could anyone tell me the basics of winterizing so that I can make sure the dealer is doing the right thing? Not that I don't trust them, but I want to go through a basic checklist with them.

    1. Fuel tank (full?)
2 Water tank, completely empty and lines clear? Is any antifreeze needed?
    3. Porta-potti, pumped out. Any additive needed?
    4. Engine and drive, need help here
    5. Batteries, disconnected. Should I remove and store at home? Should they be charged on occasion during winter?

I am sure there is lots more I am missing here, any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

My dealer doess my winterizing ...I've had friends do the shadetree mechanic thing and it ended up costing them. I want the assurance of a pro job.

    1. I top off the tank with ethanol free gas and add stabil.
    2. The water tank is drained then antifreeze run thru each faucet/nozzle via the onboard pump.
    3. Porta potti is pumped (after each day on the water) and a bit of anti freeze added in the collection tank.
    4. drained are removed from the engine...not exactly sure what all happens here but I see a bag of drain plugs each year.
    5. Batteries are removd and placed on a maintainer.

Re: 240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

    NEWBIE
new to this thread and fairly new to boating I currently have a 18.5ft bow rider which is too small for our family to all enjoy together I have found a 2011 240 sundeck with a 350 mag with low hrs which seems to be the perfect mix of size features and power
looking online it would seem sea ray has one of the highest resale %
any thoughts as to value of this boat and what i should be looking for
also as an aside I am told with this power set up should do mid 50s top end is that true
    thanks for any suggestions

    Jeff,
Since you are talking about the new style 240SD which is lighter and smaller than the older style yes I would think you would easily hit the mid 50s. In my older/heaver 240 I could hit the low 50s with the 350 mag.

Re: 240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Jeff, we just purchased our first boat, a 2004 SR 240 SD. I do agree that Sea Rays tend to maintain their value well. I am not sure what a 2011 model would be worth. I had mine surveyed and there were no major issues found, but you could check for water in the hull and definitely do a sea trial to check engine function, gauges, etc. As far as top speed, I havent really tested that on mine. We went WOT in the sea trial for 20 secs or so and I seem to recall mid forties with 3 people on board and fairly calm seas. That is with the 350 mag (300hp). We, as a family of 3, love the boat. We have been out several times with 7 people and have been very comfortable. I could see going out with nine and still having enough room. Good luck!

Re: 240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Hey, just found this forum. Long time Sea Ray owner, but have recently bought a '97 240 SD (only 135 hours) and have a few questions that are likely particular to the SD. Not had much time to use it this fall, but will get in a full season next year. The vessel seems to be all could expect. This may be more appropriate in Maintenance, so advise please and I will move there. Going thru all the manuals that came with purchase, I find a lack of info on the fresh water system and the marine head, so we have not used either. Almost time to winterize now but next season I would like to have them available even if not used. Is there a power switch for the fresh water system I have not located yet, or is it automatically 'off' since I have not filled the supply tank? Head has a pump-out port on starboard gunwale. Does this have a vent to facilitate pumping from this port, or does a tube get lowered into the sump for content extraction? Just not familiar with this unit, and the Sea Ray manuals just refer you to the head manufacturers instruction guide which I do not have. My earlier houseboat head had a maceration pump and holding tank, completely different from this model. Any 'use' suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: 240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

David, there should be a water pump switch or button on the dash. I have the electronic panel and you simply push the button and it illuminates green to tell you it is on. Then you operate as normal. It should turn on whether or not you have water in the tank. My boat also has a pumpout, but it is on the port gunwale right above where the head is located. There is also a vent that exits above the water line on the port side, right where the head is (amidships). You should see two tubes coming out the back of your porta pottie, a large and a small. The large is for the pumpout and the small is your vent. The pump hose at the marina simply connects to the top pump out fitting on the gunwale and they suck everything out. Now, I am not sure how a '97 is laid out, but I am thinking it would be similar to my '04.
