240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Since Stihlbolts started at 220 Thread, I figured I would start a 240 one. Mines a 2006 with a bunch of options. Some people said I was trying to make a cruiser out of it First SeaRay, but not first boat. Been boating for more years than I want to think about. Started skiing at 4, boy was that a long time ago.
If your interested I'll post some pictures of the mods I've had done. Even if I can't answer your questions I'm sure some of our fellow SRO members will chime in and help :D [/b]

Chuck, your boat is sweet! I don't think I ever mentioned that on the SRO forum, but.... I had downloaded that first pic above, sent it to my wife and told her to check that out. That boat is our future goal.

Have the 175 we just purchased this year as our first boat. Stayed on the small and inexpensive side to see if we'd use it as much as we thought we wanted to. If we didn't we could sell and not be out much. As it turns out, the boat is now near mint condition and I think I could make a profit out of it (gasp!). It is undersized for where we use it to be comfortable. Thinking of going to a 210 or so maybe end of next year or '08. I got this 175 all cleaned up, I hate to sell her so quickly! But i can't get enough of it... :D

Anyway, that 240 would be great. The brochure doesn't make the boat look as huge as your pictures do. Looks like a serious speedboat! Did I read somewhere on the SRO forum where you said it'll do 50+?!

    Later,

    Tom

PS> Nice forum here; very similiar organization to SRO; hopefully more familiar faces will show up! I'm over at the boatus.com forums, hooking up with a lot of people there too...

    Tom,
Thanks for the nice comment. Yes it looks bigger on land than in the water! :o  Made the jump to it after being on the TN river with 3-5' seas in our 18 footer, and told the crew we need a biger boat  :o  The seas just seemed to come out of nowhere, had to do with the wind, current and the lay of the river/mountains.

As to the speed not sure about the 50+ I think the most I've got on it was 48 GPS, but I've got it pretty loaded most of the time. I'm sure with the biger engine(I've got the 350Mag) you could easly hit the 50+ range. Somebody else with the biger engine should chime in soon.

    Gunn,

Brent Jones will probably chime in. As I remember, his will break 50 mph. I think he has the 6.2 liter engine.

If I start talking about the top speed I was able to get on my 5.0 240SD, everyone will shoot me down again. But I can back it up with GPS now for all the doubters.

In all seriousness though 240SDs are one of Sea Rays nicest boats. Even though I have owned my 260 Sundancer for only three weeks now I really do miss the Sundeck. If I don't sell it in the next month, I am going to spend a day on the water with her again. I really can't afford both boats as much as I would like to have both but it will be a sad day when I sell her.

So Dave, Did you remove the speedometer from your SD and install it in your DA in order to preserve your top speed readings from your SD .

No guys.............I now belong to the Cruiser club where top speed isn't as important anymore. But I am asking a premium for my 240SD speedometer in case any of you are interested in buying it.
