    Grrr... Floor rot.

I knew the boat had some soft spots when I bought it. It comes with the territory when buying a cheap searay that needed some extra attention. Not what I'm mad about.
I went to the lake last weekend and my floor panel over the fuel tank moved and dropped about 1/2 inch on the port side just past the locker.
So, I unscrewed it today and lifted it to find this: some rot, I expected. But not 3 pieces of 2x2 just shoved underneath the floor? Who does that. Guess I'll take some time this weekend to fiberglass some wood and repair it the right way. Jeez. Just wanted to vent.

Looks a little new for it to have been done by the factory.

My Monaco had that issue so I got the West Marine epoxy and coated treated plywood and put it back in and it was better than new and didn't cost too much took about one afternoon to do.

    Re: Grrr... Floor rot.

I am in the same perdiciment. i purchased a 1988 searay seville and started to work on some soft spots during the winter months, what i found out is alot more rotten wood than i expected. the floor all around the gas tank is rotten as well as the bulkhead between the ski locker and gas tank. does anyone have suggestions as to how to start this project, what wood to use, etc.
the hull, motor and the rest of the boat is in good condition just need some guidance as how to proceed.

    thanks.

Search for Friscoboater. He did a total rebuild on a 22 fter. You can argue about the type of plywood to use, most will suggest marine plywood as it is put together with water proof glue and has few to no voids in it. Also look for Getaway. He rebuilt his 268 DA.

Good luck. If you post pics it will help.

I have the same exact problem. I have a 19' 1986 sea ray. Just bought it. Just found soft spots in the same exact spot! Did you ever end up fixing it? I am trying to search how to repair it. :/ Thanks.
