    Location of Amps for stereo

I am getting ready to put our 2004 390 DA back in the water and need to tap into the stereo system so I can attach an Ipod or MP3 to our stereo system. I would like to get advice on best way to play music off an Ipod/MP3.
Can anyone tell me where the 2 amps are located and the best way to access them?

Buddy, looking at your year boat, I think they are located under or behind the salon sofa. If not there, pull one of the electrical panels open and shine a flashlight inside and have a look see. Good luck

Re: Location of Amps for stereo

Which stereo unit do you have? My 2004 has the Clarion XMD3 unit. It has a dedicated AUX input. It is two red wires with a red RCA jack on one and a white RCA jack on another. I just did what you want to do with this unit and connected a RCA to 3.5mm cable to this AUX input and mounted the the 3.5mm plug end next to the XMD3 unit. So I actually connected to the head unit, not either of the amps. The Clarion then has AUX as an input selection. I now simply plug in the iPOD into the 3.5mm jack and set the Clarion input to AUX and all is well.

The Amp is behind the salon sofa you will need to pull the bottom cousion out and the take the back off the sofa. You will find it in that area.

Re: Location of Amps for stereo

Does anyone know the model number of the Amp? I would like to know what watts it is pushing without having to take the seat apart. Thanks for the help.

Darnold, I downloaded your manual and this is what it says,

STEREO, AMP MARINE AUDIO MAA402 12V STEREO,
    AMP CLARION APX480M (HULL# 504 -> UP) STEREO,
    AMP CLARION APX400 4M

So, it could be any one of these models...
I hope that helps ya buddy

Re: Location of Amps for stereo

Just did the same on our 40DA. First, you have a 130Watt amp for the cockpit as stock. Totally a POS. I replace it with a JL Audio 4 channel amp. Relatively simple replacement. I left the POS amp used for the cabin inplace as we hardly ever crank it up down there. Next issue you'll have to deal with is the fact that the AUX input may already be used by the TV. If you turn on the tv and hit the AUX button on your head unit and hear the tv in the speakers, your aux is already in use. I wanted to be able to connect an mp3 player or my iphone so I used a splitter on the aux port which now allows me to have both the tv and iphone connected (even at the same time) and able to be listened to via the single aux input. I have some pics I can send you - just PM me.

    Kreole Kid,
Thanks a lot. That does help. I was trying to see if I could push some JL Audio 6.5's with the amp i have. Listening to others, probably not. Thanks again for your help.

Absolutely you can use your current amp with the JL 6.5’s. The thing is you are going to want to upgrade the amp anyway to get the best sound from them. The JL’s will handle 80 watts RMS each.

I did a upgrade last season replacing all 4 cockpit speaker with JL 6.5’s, upgraded the amplifier, and then added the JL 10 sub. Tremendous sound system now.

Here is a link to the thread I did on the upgrade. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php...pgrade-project
