    Odd VHF reception issue

My new-to-me 270da came with a Standard Horizon nova VHF radio and a very broken antenna (broken off right at the base). I replaced the antenna and now when I transmit (have only tried this on channel 66a) the marina's can hear me, but I can't hear there replies. I can go to Ch 16 and the WX channels and hear ok but nothing when I get a reply. any ideas why this would be? I checked the connection on the back of the radio as well as the RG connector that I had to put on (the new crimp on style) and they are fine.

If you are in the USA check the radio to set to U so it is using the correct simplex or duplex frequencies. Here, in Australia, we use the International channel and frequency allocations (the I setting) and there is another one for Canada (C).

On the display near the channel number there will be a small U, I or C. Make sure it's set to U. Likewise make sure the other station you are talking to has the same setting.

Standard horizon have most of their manuals available online to find out how to change it.

Thanks! I can't find the specific manual on tier website but they seem to universally control this by this function " press and hold the 16/9 key and then press the CLR(WX) key to cycle through 'International, USA and CAN. I believe that must be the problem! I will try this and report back.

Turn up the volume. Don't laugh, but I bought a VHF handheld that I had the same problem with. People could hear me but I couldn't hear anyone back.

The volume settings aren't the usual rotary knob. The volume settings had to be programmed in. DOH!
