I think they do repowers at Silver Cloud. I agree that the cost of re-powerin an older boat that you KNOW vs. the cost of a newer comparable used boat with diesel already does kinda make sense. You'll never get the money back but hell, all these hunks of fiberglass depreciate faster than you can pay for them. It would be a very cool project and if you plan on keeping the boat "forever," why not?

Had a discussion with Frank W about this a couple of times. His contention is that Yanmars are hi revving and vibrate an AWFUL lot. Would require stringer reinforcement too.

THIS GUY always has refurb'd yanmars.

If you look at what 80,000 less the cost of new gas engines equal the pay out is never for me.
If Ford new car engine type gets made for boats that might be a possible alternative for repower.

    Ron,

In the pictures I saw, they did reinforce the stringers... I am hoping for a production like refurb business that specializes Sea Rays and converting them to diesels... I would want someone like Dale, MasterFab, heading up this business... I like Yanmars because they are Japanese, and I trust all things Japanese, especially engines... I guess I am a little biased...

    Re: 7.4 MPI replacement help!!!!!

Here's the update. After making myself nuts trying to make a decision, I pulled BOTH motors and replaced them with 2 new Mercruiser 350 Mag Strokers. I gained 20hp per motor, lost approx. 800lbs and will be saving a ton of money on gas. The boat runs amazing! Not sure how fast she's running on the top end yet because I need to break in the motor a little more, but at 4000 rpm I am running 32.5 knots !! I may be crazy, but she seems to handle better around the dock without the extra weight.

With a 3 year warranty, I have to say I think I made the right decision.....anybody looking for a great running FWC 7.4L LX/MPI?? I have that and the one with the bad bearing looking for nice new homes !

    Thanks for all the help!
