I have looked into it twice, once in 2004 and again in 2009. I could never justify the cost for the few times I feel one would help. I would also be concerned with one more hole in the bottom to cause issues.

    Re: 40 sedan bridge forum

I had a bow thruster installed 2 years ago and am very happy with the results.

Our boats are very light in the bow and tend to move around in the wind.

I almost always back onto a slip as our hook-ups are in the stern - much easier to control the bow when it's following you in.
    .
My wife can step off the stern onto the dock and take a wrap on a dock cleat near the stern and I have complete control of the bow which she can leisurely tie down......... I can bring it in to her if necessary.

Of course a thruster isn't necessary.......unless it adds to your comfort and enjoyment.

    Caseclosed,

I think it was 7 1/2" - the brand was Sidepower - the cost was a little over $12m. I have a lower helm so have control at both stations. I also opted for a wireless remote (fun...but not necessary).
It amazed me that the thruster was installed aft of the master stateroom bed -in the hatch covered compartment - easy access for future problems, etc,).

My thruster was bought from and installed by Tony at Performance Yachts on Lake Union in Seattle.

    Happy to answer anymore questions.

Mine came with the boat. Vetus 80 kgf

I use it all the time. It has it's own batteries and charger. 24v, two twelves in series. They are sort of in the way between the two engines

A lot of radio silence from our group recently. Since this is the first year owning our boat, curious what you are planning for winterizing.

My plans are leaving the boat in the water, and placing a single radiator heater in the lower section of the cabin, as well as plugging the ER vents and running a single xtreme 600 watt heater in the ER. May need to expand that to two. I also will be closing all the seacocks.

On the maintenance front, I plan to do an oil change before end of year. And, will be pulling the boat to replace the two main engine intake seacocks with ball valves. The original seacocks are very hard to turn, so much that I need to put channel locks on the the to get them to turn. I will also have a new transducer installed for my garmin 531s for the fisheye viewing.
