Gas dock up in flames
I'm off this week and enjoying time at the marina after a busy weekend on the water. My canvas guy is also working in the new top.
But this morning my phone rang and it was my daughter at about 6am. "Dad! The marina's on fire!". I sat bolt upright as she said the gas dock was in flames. Out of bed, in the car and 20 minutes later I'm there and the fire is out...thank god. We're one dock over from the gas dock. Pretty scary stuff.
Issue now is that's 2 less gas docks as another went up in downtown Kelowna last year. We don't exactly have a lot of places on Okangan Lake for gas, especially for bigger boats.
Here's some pics.
My Sea Doo is in the foreground.

We're lucky there was no wind, or the whole place could've gone up. They think the cause is a cigarette butt on the dock from over nite partners on the gas dock.

Pretty scary stuff. Amazingly only the one boat was damaged.

The raghauler didn't like you all getting so much gas and set the place on fire.

Mark, that's too close for comfort. I'm surprised it took you 20 minutes to get to the marina. I'm also surprised they got the fire out that quickly. Was a "regular" fire department called or was it marina employees who put it out? Good job for whoever did the work on the fire.
Do you know if they are going to rebuild the gas dock? If not, how far do you have to go to get gassed up now?

Re: Gas dock up in flames
Hey Mike...ya...pretty close! You've been there so you know jus HOW close!
The West Kelowna FD were first there. They did a great job putting it out. They shut the gas line down right away, then worried about the fire. That probably saved a lot of boats. My Sea Doo is about 50 feet from that gas dock which is a testament to the great job they did.
I think I'll just sit and have a couple of beers at the dock tomorrow. I need to relax!

Re: Gas dock up in flames
Wow, I've never seen a slip adjacent to a gas dock like that before, ours are almost always off separate and well away from any slipped boats, but it certainly will stick in my mind not to accept a slip like that, if it is ever offered.
