2000 Searay Sundancer 270 Stringer (Structural) Material
I am looking at this boat with 32 original hours! Amazing. It looks the part. They are asking $27,500. Long story, but I cannot find the composition of the structural components of the boat. When did Searay eliminate wood in stringers? I know there is wood in non-structural components (hatches, lids, etc.) of the boat, but what about the hull itself?
Just wanting to understand what to worry about in a 12 year old boat reguardless of the hours.

You shouldn't worry about a 12 year old Sea Ray. 32 original hours is not a good thing. Expect things to break as you start using the boat with such low hours.

32 hours means its been sitting a long time or the fudge was changed Look into it allot more. Parts corrode when they sit. I'm selling my 99 270 if your interested. Am I aloud to say that? I apologize if I can't

Well, I am not sure I agree with the concept that low hours is inherently bad. I am going to definitely get a survey prior to purchase. The boat is out of the water and shows no signs of being in the water in it's lifespan. Hours still means less wear and tear on certain components. I can fix the small stuff.

ask allot about it. There are different thoughts on good and bad but a large majority bad. When things that spin ( impeller circulating pump engine internals and so on) sit the either seize our corrode out just rust. Not trying to put you down just trying to give some info that I receive. I bought mine with 230 hours and had a few small issues but nothing major. When you sea trial stay at idle for a while and then gradually work up in intervalstill at wot rub it for a long time at wot watch temp and oil pressure. shut it down let it cool and do it again making sure it stays consistent. Spend as much time out add you can. Best of luck

They have only had the boat a year, so I'm not sure how much they know. I found a very good surveyor to check the boat out. I'm not sure what to do other than that. I'm not going to walk away, because the interior is like new. I have an 06 boat with 70 hours and it has been impeccably taken care of.

Hire a reputable mechanic to thoroughly inspect and take the sea trial with you. A marine mechanic that is. And the best thing to do its take an oilsample from engine and out drive after sea trial so it has time to run through the internals and have it analyzed. Its cheap and fast

Excellent boat but I am biased. I have had no significant problems with mine. The hull is fiberglass. The transom is glassed over wood. The stringer are also glassed over wood. I would not let the wood bother you necessarily. As long as it passes a competent survey to your satisfaction. Be careful of any structures that pierce the hull or transom.
What is the engine package? Air conditioning? Gen set?
I also would not let low hours necessarily bother you. I know what people are saying about worrying about low hours. If the boat sat in the water and slowing deteriorated and had sub par preventative maintenance then yes low hours would then be a concern. If the boat has been maintained and stored out of the water and sun then low hours is likely not a problem. I like the fact that you are having it surveyed.2000 Sea Ray 270, 7.4L Mercruiser Bravo 3

It has the exact same package you have. 7.4L MPI with the Bravo 3 drive. AC but no generator. I think the problem is that the current owners are not "boat knowledgeable" at all. Get this, they purchased this as a first boat. Crazy! Maybe I can get the previous owners contact info and talk to them, but I doubt it. Problem is that this survey is going to be expensive based on the location of the boat on a lift.
