Chicago air show trip.
I'm thinking of making a trip to the chicago air show. I will be leaving Michigan city. I have made this trip before but its been awhile. On past trips I've had people get sick and I needed to get them to shore. where is the best place to get people ashore or pick someone up if I need to? The other question is if I decide overnite I've heard people say to anchor in the playpen. Is this a good idea? I don't think I'll be able to get a slip at this point. Any other comments our suggestions are welcome.
Thanks

Re: Chicago air show trip.
I wish I had some insight to give you, but I really don't. I've made the trip to the airshow three times now, and after each time, swore I would never do it again. I had the same issues with folks getting sick, and usually had them swim to ease the queeze. I would be really concerned about getting whacked by a drunken boater while anchoring in the play pen all night. Perhaps you could rent a buoy mooring in one of the many marina's over there. I also know that the newest marina, the name escapes me right now, is still nearly empty, as is Hammond, so I wouldn't rule out getting a slip.
Where are you in Michigan City? We are on the 200 dock, stop by and say hi sometime!Scott of the most excellent Sea Ray "Destiny".

Re: Chicago air show trip.
The new harbor is the 31st St Harbor. A nice new harbor, built around a very very bad area.

It's all a matter of perspective. Some would call the area the "DisneyLand of Death"

Re: Chicago air show trip.
I am planning on heading over as well from New Buffalo on either Friday night or Saturday morning. The weather forecast isn't looking great for Friday on the lake, I am hoping that Saturday calms down enough to enjoy the day. I have a slip in Burnham.

Re: Chicago air show trip.
IMHO, the Dusable Harbor is the best. Walking distance to Navy Pier and the museum campus.. Very clean bathrooms, good stuff....

Ended up not going. Next year I'll plan earlier. Still curious where to drop someone off in chicago? Years ago I believe I dropped a couple off at grant park after one of them became ill. They took the train back. Another time I dropped someone off down river not sure where but security wasn't happy with me ;-(

I'd say stay put. We did a run from the Hudson to Clinton, CT today (Long Island Sound) in the slop in our 33' Sundancer. We left crack of dawn because the wind forecast was going to gradually BUILD...
