    Rerunning engine bilge-pump hoses

Ever notice water in the bilge? If you throttle down too fast the the following sea comes back under the swim platform and water goes back into the bilge outlets, bringing water into the engine bilge. On my prior 260 they actually looped the bilge hoses in the engine rooom to avoid this. But in the 340 they do not. It seems hard to get back in there to play with those hoses in such a tight space.

    Has anyone solved this?

If so can you share a picture?

I did solve this problem, but I had the engines out when I re-routed the hoses. There are plenty of bilge details in my blog, and a section about these hoses. Send me a PM if you want more info.

We have put scuppers on some of our boats in Maine. They are available in a couple styles, but this is the style we have. The boats we had came with rubber-flapper style and we changed to these to avoid constantly replacing the rubber flap.

My only concern for you would be whether or not you could install it OVER your existing through hull, or not. It was a while ago that we installed these and I just can't remember if it would fit right over, or not. If no one knows for sure, you may want to give TH a call. However, with a little ingenuity, you could space it out from the hull (to get it over the thru-hull) by using a starboard trim ring and silicone.

I have never noticed this problem on my boat... I have a mystery slow leak, which I think is from my newly replaced dripless seals, but I will have to check if this is also a problem...

    Rod,

Not to hijack this thread, but carefully inspect your water lift mufflers. I've seen a few from this generation that started to separate along the seems, right where the end caps are fused to the cylindrical section. While underway, you'll get a bit of water in the bilge, and then the leak "disappears" when the engines are off., and the mufflers are no longer pressurized. Usually, you'll see a salt buildup around the leak.

Apparently, the mufflers are not fiberglassed together, but instead the ends are sealed to the cylinders with 5200 or an equivalent product. Over time, the bond weakens from the constant exhaust pulsation, and a slow leak develops.

Thanks Dale... I will check that... I still have that illusive slow leak when the engines are running....

    Re: Rerunning engine bilge-pump hoses

I just replaced my bilge pump hoses because one had a hole in it. Mine are routed up to the deck plate then down to the through hull from the factory. Mine are easier to get to since I only have one engine though.
