Lets Talk Trailer Tires and the Best place to get your moneys worth... Blowout story!

So I had a blow out with my 13 year old Goodyear Martathons last night. Yes I am guessing on age as the date code was only three digits and ended in 9 i'm guessing they were 99 tires and were originals on my 2000 shorelander trailer. Tires have really changed over the years I'm seeing as these were 4 ply C rated. Today C rated is 6 ply so I don't know if my thought of going up to D rated is overkill as the new C Rated have 50% more ply's than the original tires. I'm pretty settled on going with a Radial unless someone can give some really good pro/cons to the bias ply's that I haven't found in my research. The radials run cooler, lay flatter, wear better, and are just overall more effecient. No I will not put truck tires on a trailer as I have seen in my research way to many articles showing the construction of trailer tires are designed for trailers and running straight on non-drive, non turning axles where as passenger or light truck tires are not. I've also been in a pinch on a large utility trailer at 3am with a flat we were forced to put car tires on it in Sc and barely made it to FL before it lost all it's tread. With all that being said. Does anyone have any secret websites or companys to buy a pair of radial tires from in a 185/80/13 size prefferably D rated... I will entertain a good deal on C rated as well... Will take tire and wheel combo or just tires depending on the deal...

i cannot offer a secret website or company, but i have used Maxxis trailer tires for the past 3 years without issue.....when i needed new trailer tires i did considerable research on the internet and talking with knowledgable people about towing and trailer tires and found the Maxxis tires almost always had overall positive reviews....

this is one of those subjects where many people will swear by the brand they are using, so you will likley get a wide variety of recommendations.....

Carlysle makes some 6 ply in that size
I have been using a tire called Hi-Run this year
they make an 8 ply D rated that are about 65 bucks each
I have some 4.80x12s that seem to run out true and had no issues yet but haven't put many miles on them yet

I hate to admit it but the previous owner of my boat mounted new "E" truck tires on my trailer (12,500lbs) weeks before I bought it. I run 80lbs in them and towed 8 hours at 65mph in July with no isses of heat or tread wear. "E" rated tires are pretty stout with stiff sidewalls. I use Marathon Radials on my 3500lb trailer and bought them at tirerack.com, Mike.
