Clarion stereo upgrade and headaches
Replaced a Clarion CMD5 with a CMD7. Turns out the remotes have a different kind of wire than is compatible with the newer CMD7. Once upon a time (2009?) an adapter was available to allow use of the older cable with newer systems. Alas it has been discontinued. Unless one of the many knowledgable CSR members knows where I can find one of those adapters????
Incidently, all of my Clarion speakers, 6 of 'em, had blown tweeters. Just bought replacements through Amazon. The speaker cones were made of polypropylene I think and were in shards. How 'bout that? The amazing thing was that they still played music, albeit with a little buzzing.

Re: Clarion stereo upgrade and headaches
The only adapter that I was aware of was the: Clarion RCB-138
C-Bus to CeNET translator box
Converts a C-bus 6-disc CD changer to work with CeNET stereos
I purchased what I think was the last one through an Amazon affiliate a couple of years ago. I am going to use it so I can keep the old disc changer with the M309 I am installing. It was like $40.00 as opposed to $150+ for a new disc changer. I like to keep the disc's in there so when I have iPod issues etc I have canned music backup!
I don't ever recall seeing an adapter for the remotes.[IMG][/IMG]

Re: Clarion stereo upgrade and headaches
Howdy,
The adapter part no. is CCUMRA1. It is an 8 pin male (Clarion proprietary) to a 6 pin female DIN. Nice boat.

Re: Clarion stereo upgrade and headaches
I bought my boat recently, my first boat actually. It's 11 years old and has lots of goodies...but the goodies are old like my stereo and in need of upgrade. It's a shame when the manufacturers make it difficult (or expensive) to upgrade.
Nice boat. I should get a picture of mine up too.

Re: Clarion stereo upgrade and headaches
FWIW I just put a M309 in my 2007 260DA (replaced a CMD4), I couldnt find the 6-8 pin adapter so I just cut the 8pin DIN off the M309, cut the 6pin DIN off the old CMD radio and wired it color to color to the M309. You end up with two extra wires on the M309 (tan and brown if I remember) that dont get used, and like the eBay ad says the remotes work fine, just the displays are blank.

Re: Clarion stereo upgrade and headaches
Thanks! Just bought it on ebay. Next time I'm up your way I'll buy you a beer. How did you find it? I've spent too many hours searching for it already.

Update: I spoke to the guys at Port back in April and they looked at pics I emailed. This saved me a schelp out there. The said it wasn't worth repairing. Stand up group of people and honest !
