I have a friend with a 1997 Mercruiser 8.2L it will start idle and run all day long at 2500 rpm. as soon as you push 2800 an alarm will go off and it will drop rpm's right away. Pull the throttle's back and run up to 2500 and again it runs perfect. We have been told that the ecm on this model does not have the ability to go into a "limp" mode when a fault is detected. Have not had a chance to get a scanner on it to check for faults, but wondered if anyone has run into this before. Thanks Art
