84 GM 305 Backfires when i use trim or tilt controls. Rebuilt carburator, No Power.

i do not have starting issues but i was just checking the wiring to make sure i didnt have any grounded issues. i am going to try disconnecting the battery when i get home today and see if it stays running. I really appreciate all the help here. i would be at a stand still if it wasnt for you guys. Going over the boat some many times you think you checked everything till somebody throws something out to you that should have been checked from the start. thank you again. i will report back.

ok so i disconnected the positive off the battery and BAM the motor stalls instantly.. Looks like im looking for a new alternator. Thank you very much for your help. i am hoping this will fix all the problems im having. I will post back once i install the new alternator. i cant wait to have a smooth running boat. i cant thank you enough!

that and maybe every piece of eqiuipment that was on and working when you disconnected the battery. Cant be done with alternators. they run wild and seriously overvoltage everything.that trick was done with generators only.

On my 1989 Sunbird with a V6 4.3L and OMC Cobra I would have that problem when I needed a tune up. I would be on plane go to trim and the engine would splitter sputter and when I let go of the trim run great. I would change the cap, wires and rotor. Every time when I toll the cap off is was pitted bad, the rotor was worn. I do not know if that helps.
