06 340 v drive clunk

I have a 06 340 with 200 hrs and experience a slight clunk when I shift into forward or reverse gear from both transmissions. I spoke with a mechanic who stated not to worry some v drives do this. Is any one else experiencing this. I am going to change the tranny fluid and filters and all the spark plugs this year. Any thoughts???

Only if my rpms were too high... Is it a new noise?

I'd have to hear the "clunk" to diagnose more positively, but my first instinct would be the damper plates. It's possible you have a few broken springs in the dampers, resulting in some play, and in the clunk you hear upon engagement. Often, broken damper plate springs will also manifest as a slight "rattling" in neutral, at idle.

This boat and vdrives were new to us at the beginning of this season, both transmissions have done this since new. It is shifting at idle at around 680rpm's.

No rattling or noises at idle, there does feel like there is some play at the shaft if i move it after the v drive.

Back when I had my 360 Sundancer, everytime I shifted it would clunk!! Thought for sure the tranny was about to go.....

When I pulled the boat for storage that fall the prop was loose and it was slaming up against the props nuts that had come loose!!

When you change the fluid, consider sending it out for analysis. I have been using Blackstone for years. Very thorough and quick. They'll send you specimen bottles for free but I'd suggest you spend the $30 for the small pump they sell. Prevents cross-contamination.
