Another hero passes from us.
Tomorrow, 9/29/2012, My family and I will lay my dad in his final resting place. After many months of illness we finally closed his eyes for the last time and went to sleep. We are comforted to know he is in a better place and at rest.
My Dad was a patriot with commendations from Donald Rumsfeld hanging on his wall at home. He loved his family and country and served with great pride in the Navy. (Must be where I get my water fetish from).
If you remember, say a little prayer for my family tomorrow at 11:30 am EST as we bid him farewell. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, 6 children, and many grand and great grand kids. We will miss him greatly.
I have posted this before but would like to post again as a tribute to my dad, friend, fishing and hunting buddy.
A tribute to my Fathers service to his country
I did not serve in the military though my dad did. He served on a submarine tender, the USS Orion, for 12 years. I never had to go to war though my dad has a ribbon for the Korean conflict. I don’t have any awards for bravery but my dad has a commendation from former secretary of defense, Donald Rumsfeld, hanging in his home. I have learned about duty, honor, and commitment from the man who served, respected, and avowed loyalty to his country. I am an American and my dad is a Patriot. Because of his service I live free. We both live under the flag of the United States. Him, as the giver of freedom and me, as the receiver of freedom.
How much more is my responsibility to uphold the way of life he has provided than those who would come in with no history of duty, honor and commitment? Those how would take without asking, live under the flags protection without serving, or raise a family in a land that their fathers never fought for.
Our land provides a path for the homeless, the down trodden and the politically and religiously persecuted. This path was laid by our fathers who had enough insight and moral responsibility to the world to understand the awesome blessing we must share. When this path is followed the sojourners who follow it are given every right provided by our constitution. My father fought for this right for them.
The Red, White, and Blue is the very symbol of the freedom provided by the constitution and paid for with American blood. It is by these very same rights that I make this proclamation to the world and to those who would berate and suppress my flag.
I will show, wear, paint on, or otherwise display my flag whenever, wherever, and however I please. If you don’t like it then talk to my dad and all those who served, fought, or died for that right. It is on their blood that I will fight for our way of life and our flag. I can do no less. I am a Patriot’s son!

My salute to your father and prayers to you and your family. He was from the Greatest Generation. There will never be another generation like that, and probably not another hero like your father. RIP.
