Just purchased 01 380 Sundancer ready for winter remodel
Just purchased a 2001 380 Sundancer. We are looking to 'up date' the boat.
Personally I don't have much experience in remodels. Looking to hear your experiences and opinions on what we are looking to do. This is our first boat this size and we are very excited.
To do list.
-repairs from survey
-remove all graphics
-buff and wax
-new sundancer logos
-New black canvas
-update to 2004 raymarine radar screen
-flat screen tv's
-replace carpet with hard surface flooring.
-replace steps with wood 'floating' steps
-replace all hardward to stainless or brush nickle
-new sound system
-All Led lighting
-underwater lighting/cup holders
We haven't started yet but excited to hear what you think. Are we heading in a good direction?

Re: Just purchased 01 380 Sundancer ready for winter remodel
Sounds like an aggressive list for first winter, but more power to ya!
We pulled our ratty looking swim platform first winter, reglassed the entire shoulder from end to end to eliminate lots of spider web cracks and non-matching colored repair areas. Then added FlexTeak topside. Along with renaming and relettering, that went a LONG way to improving the curb appeal of the 2000 model year.
Anything you can do to add color in the cabin will help as well. Ditch the oldspreads, pillows. We removed all curtains as well, and it really brightened up things.
Replaced Clarion head unit with newer Clarion head unit. Retained amp, wiring, subwoofer and replaced speakers in cockpit. It rocks, and took about 2hrs and less than $500 to update.
What powers the boat? How many hours?
Have fun!Last edited by markrinker; 10-13-2012 at 09:29 PM.

Re: Just purchased 01 380 Sundancer ready for winter remodel
Welcome to the hole in the water club! from the list you gave I hope you have deep pockets! CONGRATS! You are right, get what has to be fixed done to get in the water. The enhancements, do as you have time. I gotten a lot done over the last 3 years on mine and now it is getting closer to just maintenance. When figuring out how much time it will take, triple it. For some reason working on the boat takes a lot more time than working on a car or the house. Part of that is the 1/2 drive to where the boat is on the stands for the winter. The other is underestimating the effects of cold weather. One year we had so much snow, I spent my time digging paths to the boat and clearing off snow, not my projects. Good luck.

Boat is powered by 8.1s and has 720 hours.
We really want to change all the cabinet surfaces but cost is just too much.
What upgrades are the best bang for the buck?
We will be doing all of our boating on the st croix and mississippi rivers.

Not sure about changing the steps, don't you have a central vac system there?

Re: Just purchased 01 380 Sundancer ready for winter remodel
Since the 380 was a successor to the 370 (which I have), I'm pretty sure the central vac is under the settee in the main cabin. While there may be nothing under the stairs, there is a solid bulk head behind them. Cutting the bulkhead to open up the mid-cabin would strictly be a no-no since it would structurally weaken the boat. On the other hand open steps would five the main cabin a more open feeling and allow the dead space to be used for storage (or not).
I keep a black tarp on my boat to allow the sun to heat the boat through the winter by passive solar. Makes working on the boat impossible without artificial light though.
Go luck with the boat Zach!

Re: Just purchased 01 380 Sundancer ready for winter remodel
My plan or the steps was to leave the structure and support in place and on only replace the step. I think these are bolted to the metal support.
Has anyone turned the current galley tv area into additional storage?Zach

I am looking to buy a fiberglass dock box. I have come across at least 4 different brands in researching them (Dockmate, Taylor Made, West Marine, & Dock Boxes Unlimited). I want one sturdy enough...
