Re: Connection Garmin GPSMAP 431 to SmartCraft?
Sounds like you go it working rjght. I have the 441s on my little boat. Its a great device. GPS speed was the reason I connected up NMEA on my 300DA. I had no speed reading on my boat and now not only do I have speed, but with it the smartcraft can now calculate and display all the fuel management data. Fuel to waypoint is the other new data item that you will only get from the Smartcraft. However, you can get that from the 431 as it does have the ability to be connected to a fuel sensor (not sure how to do that or if you need a special fuel sensor). Also, your smartcraft is already connected to the combo depth/temp sensor and it gets its depth from there. On my little boat I mounted the Garmin transducer and it gets its depth/sea temp from that transom transducer. And they both work all the time! On my 300DA boat the sea temp part of the combo sensor is broke, but the depth still works fine. This is common and probably your case (from another post of yours in another thread). I bought a $30 IR gun rather than replace the $280 sensor. Also, there is a time zone setting on the 431. Check your manual.
The smartcraft only receives NMEA data, it does not send anything back. The 431 is capable of receiving and sending.Last edited by ZZ13; 10-17-2012 at 07:40 PM.

Re: Connection Garmin GPSMAP 431 to SmartCraft?
Thanks, Bill! After I wrote the post, I was thinking to myself "why would I send water depth to my chartplotter? It should already know the depth!!" I think the fuel management data will be cool to use!
Again, much help to all for the advice and guidance!
