Re: VHF Hailer Recommendations
No, I think the Bayliner guys who were hanging out here suggested carriage bolts....then tried to make a rich man/poor man discussion out of a clearly improper method for repairing a hole in the bottom of the boat.

Comment about screws has nothing at all to do with Alex, his intellectual capability, mental health or pastime. If he wants to do an in depth analysis of repairing holes in a boat with lag screws or carriage bolts, I reserve the right to revisit that last statement.Frank

Re: VHF Hailer Recommendations
You can see my hailer here:

I think it's just glued on with 5200.
Ha! You can see it in my sig pic. How do you do the fog horn thing without a hailer?

Old school, with your finger on the horn button.

Re: VHF Hailer Recommendations
If you are using the bell you might want to look at the COLREGS again. I am not sure there is a provision for using a bell underway. I seem to remember the bell is for use at anchor.

Re: VHF Hailer Recommendations
I guess I got things mixed up. At anchor I'm using loud music....LOL... If you say I can't use the bell underway, then I really need a hailer.
On the serious note, I'm surprised that there's nothing in the rules that mentions about using bells underway. I just did a quick search and there's nothing about it here: http://navruleshandbook.com/Rule35.html
As Mike said, the old fashion way is just manually activating the horn every two minutes or so. But, I had an interesting experience while delivering our friends sailboat. I posted while back our journey and how we got caught in the thickest FUG I've ever seen. When I asked him where's the horn button, he said there's none. All he had at the time was the bell. So, he sat at the bow ringing that bell every two minutes while we were making our way to NJ.Last edited by Alex F; 10-20-2012 at 09:35 PM.

I just bought an 82 searay inboard/outboard. It is on the trailer and the trim won't go down. I have 2 buttons on the shifter 1 is a trailer button and the other is an up/down button. I can here...
