I'm not sure if its sealed to the coupling somehow or just goes right into the bilge. I guess you answered my question.b nice I'm still leaning.
Sorry, didn't mean to be rough on you. Lord knows, that's the last thing you guy's need over there right now. The point i was trying to make was that there is no seal between the gimbal bearing and the coupler. Therefore, if the water level came half way up the bearing, being that is the centerline of the crankshaft. Depending on the angle the engine is mounted on the stringers and the angle the boat was blocked at, that would determine the possible high water level to be concerned with. Was the garboard plug in or out?Mitch

Re: flood damage
1/2 the gimble bearing is at the same level as 1/2 the crankshaft. It sounds like not that much water entered and if it did the auto bilge pump may have kept up with it. They are a very durable bearing....like a wheel bearing. I'd change it if it has not been done in a few years, Mike.

Re: flood damage
I may stand alone on this one...
Rough surfaces kill bearings.
This can be created by wear from use, foreign debris being ground up in the bearing, rust on bearing surfaces...
A bearing being submerged in water for 24 hours is doubtfully damaged.
If changing it makes you feel better, then go for it. I tend to err on the side of caution, but my experience says it's probably fine.

Re: flood damage
This is what the inside looks like for the bravo 3 drive. The big hole in the middle above the exhaust y pipe is where the bearing is. No need to worry just hose down with fresh water anything on the inside that had saltwater on it and spray with corrosion preventative and have the gimble bearing changed. Good luck and glad your ok.

Re: flood damage
Tech.
I was only kidding no offense taken lol. If a garboard plug means drain plug then no it wasn't in I think that's what saved my boat. If the drain plug to the hull is not a garboard plug please tell me what it is
Ad for every body else I'm just gunna change it. For 200$ its worth it

Re: flood damage
I think "Garboard" is to drain plugs like Kleenex is to Tissues?
