Bezos 417' yacht

Not a penny of my money has gone into that boat

Why not put the masts up on the other side of the bridge?

seriously:rolleyes:…….. The yacht’s towering height has presented other problems for the world’s second-richest man. The boat’s tall masts would present a hazard to helicopters, so the former Amazon CEO commissioned a support yacht with a helipad to follow in its wake, the outlet said.

This: "Word of the planned deconstruction of the 1878 steel structure took a toll on preservation officials, who said the city pledged not to take apart De Hef again following a 2017 restoration."

Money talks.

They are going to temporarily remove the center lift section and then put it back. Seems like much ado about nothing.

When Paul Allen (Microsoft) wanted to have a helo pad at his Seattle Mercer Island home he was denied, so he had a boat custom made to be tied to his dock in front of his house for helicopter use... https://www.seattleweekly.com/news/...ting-lake-washington-as-his-own-private-pond/

Looks like the channel is around 20ft deep. Wonder if they could have dropped it below it's normal draft using something like a floating dry dock? Wonder how much more clearance they needed from the bridge?

Can you imagine how deep the keel is on that massive sailing ship. I expect it uses almost all of that 20ft. I wonder what the speed under sail is for that monster. I know there is a theoretical max hull speed, but I wonder if the math works on something of that scale.

The bridge has like 120' clearance. The masts on the yacht are like 240'.... not even close. (those arent exact numbers but in the ballpark)

Ron Joyce, a Canadian and cofounder of Tim Hortons had a yacht custom built in New Zealand.
When he brought it to Halifax the masts, made of carbon fiber, wouldn’t fit under the bridge crossing the entrance to Halifax harbor.
Navy ships go under it.
I saw the boat once when I was in Halifax.
Sure was impressive.

I thought Bezos has become rich due to his start in the US. Wouldn't you think he would spend his money here instead of Europe?

Sweet boat! I wonder what it has for propulsion.

Half, if there were any boat building companies in the US that could produce a yacht of that size, he might have. It's a matter of finding the right company to build the yacht you want built.

Ain't gonna happen in the US.

I wonder why they don't get the vessel under the bridge and then put the mast's on somewhere else. With money being no issue I would think no biggie.
