Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Has anyone added a "house battery bank" with an inverter? My goal: To be able to run a coffee maker or microwave without firing up the genny in the morning when on hook with other boats. I get up early and want coffee. When on hook, no one on our raft runs a genny all night. I don't want to be that guy firing up the genny at 6:30 am for coffee. I tried alcohol stoves but now I'm onto AMG batteries and inverters.

My thought: AMG sealed battery 200ah in either the shower sump floor board or the one forward of it. I have a newer boat battery charger that has a third charging connection I was thinking of maintaining this battery. Then wire in a 2000w sin wave inverter. Mount the inverter on top of the central vac cabinet under companion way. Plug coffee maker into that or whatever else I want to.

Concerns: Having a battery inside the cabin. AMGs are allegedly safe for this but wondering what the peanut gallery has to say about this? Generally it's cool enough at anchor to run windows/door open on anchor, no genny.

onthejob - Not sure if you have come up with a solution as yet. We added a 3rd battery to our stbd bank (just enough room) and moved a few postive wires around in the power distribution panel. We currently have a small 750w inverter that is in the power panel in the cabin tucked behind the drawer just under the panel. This is wired direct to the stbd batt bank and then to the accs outlets. Has a relay on the circut so that any time power is present, via shore power or genny, it shuts itself out of the system. It appears to be an add on by the original owner. Not sure. Thinking about upgrading this to a 2000w and mounting it in the cabinet in the midberth on the left side adding a couple of attractive vents to the doors to vent unit. Current unit powers up with the fwd accs switch on the push pad at the helm and the relay is behind the cockpit helm spkr assembly. We also added a battery monitor to that bank to keep and eye on power draw. Just a thought you may want to consider.

John,

Welcome aboard - you are going to love you 340SDA but I might be a little biased. If your looking for replacement canvas get in touch we me as we are distributors for Great Lakes and can provide factory replacement canvas and get you the CSR discount (if your interested fill out the request form on our website www.covemarine.com) We are a site sponsor and have helped out many members.

Installing the flat panel TV is not too bad of a job - you can take a look at the write up I did a while ago.

Thank you Kevin - I will definitely look at your website. Your TV post is what inspired me and is bookmarked!

Greetings. Any suggestions on where to find a dual mode spot/flood lens assembly for a 2005 340?

This is the one I picked up on Amazon last year! You will need to change the ends on the wire to .25 female spade and the connectors are in a different orientation for the positives and negative but it is pretty easy to figure out.

Quick question I just tried to turn on my Mercury smart craft and its asking for a key code. I didn't get anything from the previous owner and it was fine at the end of last year. Just wondering if anyone has run into this before.
Thanks

Hello! Looking for advice/info on the hatch rams/lifts. Mine have been making this horrible noise, like there's rocks in the system when going up or down. I've searched the forum for anyone else that has experienced this and while is a post or 2, I can't seem to find anything that says it's normal or that they are going bad - nothing. I've owned the boat for 3 years and it's been making this noise since i bought it. Hard to believe that mine are the only one's here that have this issue. If anyone has experience this, determined the problem and fixed it I would love to hear from you.

Thanks

Might not help at this point but have you tried greasing them? They are basic just big screws being turned by the motor. Some people have taken them apart and cleaned them out (I personally have not).

Also they release pins also tend to creak a little if they picked some oxidation as they rotate a little as the hatch lifts.

Appreciate the response, Kevin. I have not done any maintenance on them so I will take the opportunity to grease them and see what that does. The noise is loud. Like putting gravel in a coffee can on a rotisserie; best way I can describe it. Probably not the pins., but maybe.

I assume yours don't make any noise outside of normal mechanical noise from the motor doing its job!?

There is a clutch in the system to prevent damaging something and it makes quite the grinding noise.
The rams are easy to take apart and clean. I think you will find the rod seal to be the culprit. That seal becomes gooey and sticky and will not allow the rod to slide smoothly in and out. Also the aluminum cylinder cap has grooves the seals sit in and they get corroded and prevents the seals from working correctly. I fixed both the window and engine hatch actuators on my 400DA - same problem on both.

Try Progressive Automation actuators. They have a few systems that will work as a refit to the OEM system. Finding the exact replacement lifts is very very hard.

Sea Ray has just started stocking actuators again. I just purchased one from Prince William Marine with a manufacture date of March 2023. Although I had to return it due to a defect, they are supplying them again.

Received the Acuators ( Bennett part # A1101A ) and Trim Tab Hydraulic Hardware Pack ( Bennett # H1170A ) - might as well add new fittings, etc. but haven't installed yet as it has been way too cold for my diver /mechanic.

Also replacing the Kohler model 5E Generators impeller and seal, oil service, etc as I am not sure on the PO's service dates.

April / May 2023 Updates -
- Garmin AIS 800
- Reworked the NEMA 2000 backbone w/2 4 outlet backbone
- New outside fridge replacement - Norcold 740SS

Thank you. Bought and installed it. Easy peasy. Got one for my boat neighbor with an 04 340.

Thanks - I am glad the info was helpful!
I have done a couple of these for friends too!

This is replacement was not specific to 340 Sundancers and it retains the high-low feature.

I still prefer a handheld but hate when things don't work on the boat.
It does work great for lighting the forward deck at night for cleanup.

Anyone know what an OEM cockpit sink is worth? I took mine out and was gonna sell the original because I thought saw people were looking for them because you can buy them new anymore. I’d hate to throw it out.

I removed my working cabin fridge (Coolmatic RPD-0110U) - Admiral wanted a new Stainless one- and I recall a lot of fellow boaters needed parts from that model- converter, fan, compressor etc.
I have it in my garage and will sell parts if needed so let me know. Probably only keep it in garage for another month ( mid July) so let me know…pics attached.

Just curious - what did you replace the cabin fridge with?
