So first I want to give props to Capt Hurley for his innovations. But for $350 I couldn’t justify it since I was pretty sure I could whip this out for $75 bucks in spare parts. Phase 1 of the project is complete, next is mounting and wiring. I plan to use a Ryobi drill battery since I have so many and don’t want to use the tender battery.

Here is the Hurley kit:

Here is my project:

Very cool, what is the material you are using, and which lights did you select? I'm pretty sure the main ship would be jealous of the tender having underwater lights before her, but this seems like a worthy project for starting that argument!

Also, theirs is designed to be mounted by the drain plug (I think), is that what you did as well?

Here are the lights, I have the same set on my other dinghy for the last year and they work great

As far as the material it is 1/2" Starboard and yes it is going to attach to the drain plug thru hull.

That looks super cool! How long do you think the battery will last on a full charge? It looks like a 4ah battery, yes?

I had it plugged in for a couple hours on my work bench and it was still going strong so I am not sure as there are no current specs on them and my clamp meter is at the boat. I am thinking I will be fine for the little dinghying I do in the Bahamas at night. I will do some more testing once I have them fully installed.

You do know there are Megalodons in the Bahamas that eat dinghys at night with underwater lights right?

Lol guess I will stay shallow…. Tom, you planning any trips this summer? Would love to cross paths.

This is fantastic. I’ve also added all the Hurley bits to our Highfield but held off on the lights because of cost. I’ll be doing these for sure

edited out the 12v battery part of the post, didn’t realize they were 36v

And FYI.. It took me buying a couple of thru hulls to find the one with the right nut that fit the Highfield drain thread. Here is the one that worked $15 bucks at West Marine. Yes a lot for a nut but well I wanted to finish this project vs order a bunch of nuts off amazon and wait.

It still looks like this on the back of the boat

I will be interested to hear how the tabs perform. I like how you can fold them up for storage. So those are factory Highfield? How much was a set?
