EVA foam decking

Nice. Working on mine using Menard carpet, adding snaps so I can remove when ever I want. May complete when I come out of the water in 2 weeks. Gonna enjoy these last few days before any new work.

Just took out the snap in carpet for my new to me 260 Sundeck. The black backing on the carpet is stuck to the deck. I'm girding my loins for the cleaning process on that one next weekend. I won't bother the people on this forum with that endeavor. BUT I was thinking of buying the cheap rolls of EVA from China and making my own snapin EVA flooring using the snapin carpets as a template. I can buy some marine grade snaps and poof, I have my own EVA flooring on the cheap.

On issue I can think of is getting water trapped under the EVA mats making a spot for mold/mildew. I suppose I can just pull them up at the end of the day.

Thoughts? Does anyone have a snap in product like that?

Please; bother away! It's quite possible that other members can learn from you travails.

I had the same issue. I used Purple Power cleaner and got it to look new again. I'll warn you to use good gloves though. I wasn't as careful and it wreaked havoc on my hands.

copb8TX,

Did you use the Purple Power full strength or dilute? Did you let it set or pour it on and scrub? The black stuff won't budge? I'm hesitant to go full strength make the situation worse. The Purple Power bottle says to dilute 5-1 water/Purple Power for fiberglass but it doesn't seem to do any thing.

Getting ready to go to the store and get some Easy Off oven cleaner and acetone. The weather is really nice today so I want to get it done today.

Thanks for any help!

I find myself in the same situation as many before me, removed the original cockpit carpet on my 2002 Sea Ray 360 Sundancer and the black 'rubber' backing was stuck / adhered to the non skid floor. After 2.5 hours of cleaning and srubbing I have most of it gone, but there are some stubborn spots that I was unsuccessful with cleaning. Goo Gone, Soft Scrub, and simple green didn't seem to do anything at all. Scrubbing with a heavy duty brush, followed by rubbing with a microfiber towel, and in stubborn spots scraping with a fingernail seemed to produce the best results. Unbelievably slow process. From what I have found on Club Sea Ray, it looks like Purple Power is the next chemical worth trying. Adding to this thread to see if anyone has any feedback on going 'full strength' or diluting it, using easy off oven cleaner, or scrubbing with acetone. I plan on installing Sea Dek this winter, so just trying to get the cockpit flooring as clean as possible while I still have access to fresh water and can readily wash off any chemicals before the boat gets hauled out. Thanks everyone for posting your experiences, the amount of knowledge from the Sea Ray community on this site is always impressive!

One "before" picture and three pictures of the "current state of clean" attached for reference.

Update - the Purple Power cleaner / degreaser definitely worked best out of anything I tried yet (I did not attempt to use a pressure washer). I was able to get probably 98%+ of that backing off with the Purple Power and a lot more elbow grease. I wore rubber gloves the whole time which was great advice someone had posted. I sprayed the Purple Power on 'full strength' and then 'let it soak' briefly, scrubbed the floor with a bristled brush, and then scrubbed it with a towel (kept repeating this process multiple times). Once I was done, I thoroughly sprayed the floor with a lot of water to make sure I flushed all of the Purple Power residue off. If I wasn't planning to put Sea Dek down I probably could have gotten the rest of that carpet backing 'residue' off, but I am pretty confident that I have sufficiently removed enough that there will be no issues getting the new flooring to adhere to the non-skid. Updated pictures of how I left it attached for future reference. If you compare to the pictures in my previous post, you can see the Purple Power did help to remove a lot more residue.
