Official 215 Express Thread

Ya right, what time of day might that be?

I'd love to share info with you. I'll let you know when not to try it. LOL I feel lucky some days to make it around.

I feel very comfortable in this boat I will take it to Nantucket. It's very sturdy and handles well

Went to lewis bay on Saturday. Left bass river around 1030 am and cruised right over there . Stayed for three hours and the ride back was better than the ride over

Saturday was calm day . SW winds kicking up in the afternoon that weather is coming soon.

How long have you been boating in this area?

20 years in the sound never been on the other side, the cape side

Came back to bass river from Lewis bay in my 18 foot Larson BR with a 4 cylinder Volvo Penta in 4 to six foot waves around great island wasn't scared just had to take it easy, we got a little wet but the boat did well. It was only about 100 yards of rough seas around the point but I had to get home

Hi All, new to the forum, just picked up a 2001 215 Express. I have looked everywhere and cannot find the fresh water fill location. Can someone let me know where that location is.

Thanks

Joe

On the 225 Weekender the water fill is on the starboard side. Are you sure you have a fill tank?

It's underneath the floor hatch, next to the fuel tank. Some models have a fill cap built into the floor (right before you step down into the cabin).

It can be a washing machine around that corner, I'm usually going toward Hyannis around 5 in the afternoon taking it strait on, my 26' can get crazy vertical

Absolutely itt can I think of myself as a pretty competent and very aware driver / Captain.. lol we'll meet up sometime we got two more months

My hull has a checkerboard graphic on it, black and white with yellow and purple wavy lines.

Mine is called Purr Fect for my cats. We go to lewis 2 or 3 times a month. Where do you dock I will look for you on Sunday or Monday would like to see your boat

Just checking in with you wonderful people. Dave in NE Ohio (east of Cleveland). 1998 215 EC 5.7. New to me. I got roots in Worcester and the cape fwiw. All the best.

Hello and congrats on the new boat. The 215ec is a lot in a little package. We still have ours.

I have a 2006 215 weekender. Absolutely love the boat , it is an awesome boat for me and the wife and it a lot of boat. Handles rough chop well and very easy to handle ,dock trailer ect

your model is 1000 # heavier so I'd expect it ride better, but having operated this one before I bought it this past fall I do like how it handles.

I got a very basic question I want to understand - can anyone explain simply how the cooling system works on this 1998 215EC 5.7 with alpha1 gen II ? I just want to know if I am understanding correctly that 1.) the engine's cooling system is basically self-contained like a car and 2.) how does a the additional cooling system using external water and a heat exchanger handle/accomplish the additional cooling needed?
First, this has nothing to do with the boat. This is all about the particular engine that is installed.

We need to know if you do, in fact, have a heat exchanger. If you're not sure - post a pic of the engine. Then I can tell you what's going on since there are multiple possiblities.

OK. I'll get to see engine sometime in April and take a pic....lol. No seriously thanks, I should be able to spot heat exchanger if there is one. Otherwise its the standard system. Was hoping we'd know which it was per engine size and year. I know it's fuel injected 5.7. I only got a brief look last fall and I noted the risers and manifolds exteriors looked pretty good. It's off-season and I'm thinking of such things but can't do much about it yet with boat stored in a rack bldg. I also noted there is an impeller in the outdrive as it was replaced in maintenance records. Maybe that is telling, though I suppose all outdrives have an impeller..
No, none of that tells us what whether or not you have a raw water cooling system, full closed cooling or half closed cooling. It's a 1/4 century old - anything could have been changed/added/deleted - the only thing that will tell us is pictures :)

What did you do for winteriztion this year?
