Anyone ever have a cracked bowl before? For the last year I kept getting a smell in the cabin after I go for a run. I decided to change out all the black discharge hose since I saw some sections dry rotted. Yesterday I was cleaning the bowl and noticed these cracks. There around the bottom ring and one at the top near the seat. Maybe rough seas a few times or maybe age? Either way Cost me another $500. Hope this was the smell.

Looks like porcelain bowl?
I would say yes age impact or someone didn’t winterize well?

how long have you had this boat?

My bet is heavy seas with someone on the throne.

I broke the bowl on my 340 when we were coming back from Boston in 5-6ft seas. It was a long wet ride and we came off a few waves really hard. I went down below to use the head when we got back and it was cracked in 2.

7 years had this boat. Always winterized well. I have been a heavy seas a few times. So bad that a few of my friends had hedliners fall, cabinets move and windows blow out. So I would say pretty heavy..lol

It porcelain and will easily crack if tightened too much or put too much force on it. I doubt those cracks have anything to do with the smells you experienced, that was all due to dry rotted waste hoses. Hoses start permeating smell well before they show signs of dry rotting. Waste hoses generally last around 10-15 years before rotting, a bit longer with fresh water flush heads.
