Nice boat….I wonder where they got the idea to hide the outboards….

We did a mock-up for Bayliner back in the early 80's witch had a transom pocket for the outboard. GAVE THE LOOK OF AN INBOARD. A smokey- Two Stroke in board at that. Sexy!

Bayliner had the L drive. Basically a 120 HP Force 2 stroke with the lower unit going through a hole in the bottom of the hull.

Pfffft. Everything goes and come around.

Dad bought an outboard boat in 1939, then went off on a sabbatical in the Pacific in December, 1941. Grandpa took real good care of it while he was gone, but nevertheless it rotted and needed to be replaced in 1961.

Really didn't have enough $ to buy a new one, but every night we would walk down the street 2 blocks to a local marine dealer. Their Scott outboard boats had the engine concealed just like the one in the pic.

Wish I dad one of those now. It would be a nice complement to my classic Lyman.

THAT,S where they got the idea. Bayliner's L drive was apples vs. oranges and was a crap idea.

I was in no way endorsing ANYTHING Bayliner has done, ever.

My response was intended to show that the idea of hiding outboards was NOT a new idea. The L drive wasn't an outboard, so that couldn't be used as a comparison.

Pretty cool setup at first glance. I can't see the folding sides as a thing in rough water. I like that they have hidden the OB's. But I think this is a new boat thing, and won't bode well in after market later on. It is nice having the inboard look, I think that is a big selling point.

Concept is pretty cool but I think the performance of a boat that size with 'only' triple 450's wouldn't be great. Tiara & Formula are putting triple 600's on boats that size.

It all depends on what you consider "performance". If it means "speed", then you are right.

My experience, after 69 years of being a boater, and 55 years of owning boats, is that the water conditions almost never provide the ability to top out.

I wasn't referring to topping out as almost no one runs at that level for any length of time. I'm talking about coming out of the hole with a loaded boat and optimal cruise speeds.

The 600's have 2 speed lower units that address that beautifully. The 450R's high-strung motors that like rpms which I wouldn't think it's ideally sure for a heavy boat.

If you love that boat it comes with diesel inboards as an option
