I buy almost everything online now, including groceries. I have not paid attention to individual items prices for things I purchase on a recurring basis for a while. I went to Kroger the other night for ice cream, $6.99 a gallon! Holy Smokes, it was $3 last time I was in a store. Walking around I saw more and more of this and thought "How the heck is average Joe feeding his family?" So I bought 2 1/2 gallons... :)

I am an Economics major so I understand why, and I am not looking to start a political debate. It just finally hit me.

Local place near me (BBQ) I stop occasionally on the way home and pick up something to take home to eat.

Stopped last night. 2 Meat Plate, 2 side items, large Iced Tea. In the past $14-15. Last night $23.

You can’t say a political debate ….. when it’s all political…… but like my one asshole friend says at least he isn’t Trump

Went to Fast Eddie pit beef today. 1 pit beef, 1 pit ham, 1 onion ring $24.
Sandwiches are huge, enough for dinner again tomorrow, so not too bad.
What is really twisting my nuts is Wings. We love wings and eat a lot but they are pushing $1.50 a wing. Seriously.
Anyone notice potato chips, fritos, Doritos are up to $5 a bag?

Yeah I really noticed a lot of things are a lot higher than they used to be when I was in the grocery store. I did pause a bit before buying some things, but mostly bought everything I wanted.

AND THE BAGS GET SMALLER AND SMALLER!

I hear you can get a great price on Bud Light right now….

Kidding aside, I never really bargain shopped until the last couple of years. Back then, if I wanted something (small), I just bought it…..now it’s a different story. Being on the road a lot, sometimes I’m forced to eat fast food. Those prices seem to have doubled….

It’s crazy even in the vegetable aisle. Used to be able to get a head of cauliflower to $1-$1.50. Latest on sale? $4. And not organic!

I went to the diner near the boat last weekend.

One omelet, side of bacon, one soda, one coffee (free). $21.XX before tip.

I was at my folk's house and my mom asked me to go through boxes of papers that somehow managed to end up in her attic during one of my moves. These boxes contained bills and receipts from 20 years ago.

In 2003 -

Gas was 1.89/gallon
Electric bill/month - $36.XX
Cable, phone, internet bill - $69.XX
I rented a 3 bed townhouse with a basement - $590/month including utilities
Car inspection - 20.00
Complete set of 4 tires - $275
Engineering job sign on bonus - $3000
CC interest rates 12-18% I saw on some statements
Used car purchase - $2500
Used walk behind mower purchase - $1200 (now they are $7500+ new)
Penn State Tuition (in state - looked it up) - under $10k/year

Pricing is off the charts everywhere these days.

Didn't you just take a new job that's full-remote? All that money you're saving on gas for the car, you shouldn't even feel inflation! :):)

I used to like Taco Bell. Don’t criticize I know its not Mexican, its Taco Bell, different food category.
3 tacos over $10. Still hungry, nope, wont go anymore. I read that by price, TB is the worst ripoff of all joints. McD next. Last week got 2 double cheeseburgers and a med fries, almost $12. Done with them too.

Absolutely agreed, and to continue to pay the bills I am listing all of my work cloths on eBay ;)

My mom is on a fixed SSN income. I have been paying for more and more of her recurring household/staples/OTC meds expenses, thinking I may need to start paying for more of her food now as well.

Got an Egg McMuffin "value meal" this morning. $8, used to be $3.50. I saw bacon for $8.99/pound today, crazy.

I will admit, these food prices are going to help me lose some weight. Not buying ice cream though, hmmm, I dunno about that!

I think I met you around 2003. Your hourly rate then was $200/hour ;)

We LOVE to go to dinner and get a couple of fancy mixed drinks. For me it's usually a bourbon kind of drink. They are $15+ now, which is $60+, plus tax, plus liquor tax, plus tip...I pregame more than I used to.

Ice cream is really bad for you, pure fat. After cancer radiation and losing 45 pounds i was eating a bowl a night with Hershey syrup trying to put weight on. Now that i reached an ideal weight i wont go near an icecream. Once a week i allow a small jello pudding treat.

I just put $325 to fill boat tank from 1/4 this morning. Helps cut down on buying ice cream cravings.
That's about every other weekend for us. Gas at the marina where I fill up (because they have non-ethanol and Valvtech) is $4.69/gallon. My marina is charging $6.69. Thieves. The new owners have never owned a marina before. They build and operate self-storage units. Turns out running a marina is more expensive than running self-storage facilities. This seems to have caught them by surprise and now they are over charging for everything, thinking they have a captive audience. F them, I won't buy a thing there. Still tip the employees though.
