    MacRay to Mackinaw

We've made the trip up to the Straits from either Algonac or Sarnia many times. We normally run to Rogers City, fuel up and spend the night. It's about 2.5 hours next morning to Mackinaw City or the Island. East Tawas is a bit out of the way. Port Austin is what we aim for from the Island on the...

The dash changed before the 2002 model year. It became one flat surface and easy to mount two screens. Note the Raymarine Clear Cruise in the upper split screen. Input requires AR200, AIS on your VHF and a networked forward-facing camera.

Okay, a couple of comments here because I have just been through it, once again. The original canvas had vinyl in there from the factory. I had it changed out in 2011 to polycarbonate and it was Makrolon AR. It might have been 60 gauge. The vendor did a great job in SE Michigan and eliminated...

I had Technographix do the panels and couldn't be happier. They attached the machined studs in exactly the correct spots. I previously specified the components and spacing and Sam sent a layout for approval. The only challenge was to determine what sequence to attach components and panel. I left...

That panel has maybe 10 machine screws epoxied to the back of the panel. It is held in place by wing nuts with washers. You can access this from the lower panel, by reaching up, but the far port nut is more easily accessed by removing the center panel. It's a challenge the first time you do it...

    Any Axiom users here?

I added the AR200 with a CAM210 for the Clear Cruise and really like it for two situations: Identification of vessels moving in a crowded harbor and then, sometimes on a long passage in open water, I put the upper screen on camera, Clear Cruise. That way I can sit and still keep an eye on things...

Sounds like a fabulous vessel and someone will be very fortunate to take it over. Josh, you have been a great contributor to this forum. Are you on to a new boating project? Good luck on your sale and sorry to see you leave the 460 gang.

Are you talking about the curtains in the cabins? I'll check next time I'm at the boat. In the salon I have blinds.

It's solid fiberglass where all the thru hulls are located, but might have slight coring elsewhere. The hull sides above the waterline are a different story. Early 460's had balsa coring lay-up which could have an issue when windows or vents leaked. Later boats past mid-2001 had a synthetic...

I've been really happy with the Raymarine architecture and the Lighthouse 4 operating system. Maybe replace that old external GPS with the AR200, get a camera, add in AIS and a weather module?? The Seatalk ng systems is pretty straightforward. You might need a second HS5 network switch if you...

Yes, a forward facing CAM210. It's amazing to see all the navigational markers plus the AIS ship labelling show up on the MFD screen.

It's not too difficult, but it pays to have another person help. I replaced everything with a dual screen Axiom system and I'm pleased with it. 1) Start with placing the "compass" (mine was the Raymarine ACU200) in the salon floor compartment. 2) Remove the salon A/C unit cover and run that...

Yes, you are correct. The earlier 460DA's (and certain other models) had balsa coring in the hull sides prior to mid 2001 production run. After that it was a synthetic material, so no balsa in the sides after that. But those intake vents and aft rub rail should be checked and re-bedded when...

It's not so much the rain but wake spray that might come in. If there is a strong wind abeam and you are running at speed, you will get a bit of water in the bilge on that side. But that's seawater. The vents are a bit lower on the 460 than some other Sea Ray models. If you are talking about...

Tim, I actually did not replace the rollers because they were in good condition. We've owned this boat for 16 of its 21 years and I regularly lubricate the tracks, so they were in good shape. Also, because we are in the Great Lakes, there is half the amount of wear and tear on a boat because...

I did the replacement 3 years ago. (Did you check Nova Kool? Same footprint, larger fridge.) It was a squeeze but do-able for two guys. Door lower track was fussy.

Yes, it's a straight swap. As said, port pump is more difficult to access but I was removing the Sherwood pump for the impeller change anyways, so I had practice. You won't regret the SMX and they do pump more water! Impellers will last longer too.

Starboard pump, as mentioned is difficult with the OEM Sherwoods. After dropping the "key" down the intake hose my first time (and using the rest of the day to disassemble everything) I took the port pump off and changed the impeller on the bench. Sherwood impellers only lasted one season so I...

Replace/upgrade LIGHT NAV MASTHEAD COMBO 24" CUST W/RADAR BND

I installed a Seaview dual platform mount with the Perko masthead light last year. The light did not work in the "anchor" all-round position. So I mentioned it to the rep at FLIBS last October and they were aware of the issue. Consequently they now supply their own light unit and they were kind...

Interesting. But maybe your Racor filters had something to do with the performance and they needed changing? Are you running 10 or 30 micron? Your performance is now similar to our 460.
