    First Splash 2023

Splashed her a bit earlier this year than previous. Definitely still some winter going on up here. Had our work cut out us navigating thru large ice slabs and blocked channels. We were able get one real nice day out of the three and the sea was real kind with it's treasures.

    Opening the 2022 season

This far up north, the winters are long. Boating is a big part of our lives and we are fortunately close enough to the coast that we can push the season a bit longer than most. I also keep it in the shop over the winter so there is no snow banks to worry about. Just the winter weather systems...

    Dr Death

Sat down for a few episodes of this out on Prime on the weekend. Based on actual events involving Dr. Christopher Duntsch. Pretty messed up. Really glad I didn't see it a few years ago before heading in for my L5/S1 fusion.

    Installing a head

On the list of to do's this winter is installing a head. Our boat came with a suitcase style one that was pretty much useless and just a waste of space. Looking to install a full sized electric one with a macerator. It is my understanding that for the areas we boat, it is ok to discharge (no...

    Towing at speed

Have a 14' inflatable jet boat that I am looking to set up to tow at around 22 knts. Weighs under 300 lbs without the motor. Planning to pack that on the deck. Curious if others have towed at similar speeds and what they have found works best for doing so?

    Mercruiser raw water alarm

Have a 260 Mercruiser with a Bravo 2. The raw water pump is driven with the single serpentine belt which also drives all the other accessories. It spit the belt last weekend while returning from a long cruise with the boat heavily loaded. The first thing to tip me off was the loss of power...

    Hull joint sealant/adhesive

We pushed hard through a rough inflow (3-4') last weekend and had some gear get wet in the bow. It appeared to be coming in behind the rub rail. From the outside, it is apparent the joint is separating. Going to pull the rub rail and reseal it. After cleaning it all up, is a urethane adhesive...

    Bravo 2 Clutch Grief

Have a 1996 B2 which developed an issue with getting locked in forward after a long cruise. Initially broke the helm cable trying to get it back to neutral. Didn't see any problems with it but replaced the lower shift cable while at it. Problem was not corrected and immediately returned after a...

    BASF 2 lb for floatation?

Am in the process of replacing stringers. Have a friend who has a large contract using BASF 2lb insolation who has offered to fill in all the voids for me. Does anyone know of any issues there might be in doing so? Was thinking I could just PL and screw down the top decking before glassing over...

    Stringer/motor mount repair

Replacing the stringers and motor mount supports due to soft/wet wood. Was some of the black rot in the starb side and bulkhead. The boat has a high self bailing deck and the stringers are stepped. The bottom is 1/2" thick at the through hull fitting. Unfortunately, there is no glass guys local...

    Oil filter FYI

A first for me so thought I would share. Live in the north and my boat spends about 5 mos/year winterized under a well vented and framed tarp. I rinse it all off and leave a heater in the bilge for the first week to remove all moisture before Jack Frost sets in. Anyway, oil and filters were...

    WTB- Pulpit/windlass

Looking to add a pulpit and windlass to an older 24.5'. Would like to find a shorter version or possibly even just a SS roller setup. Will probably go with a new winch unless in excellent condition in a package. Please let me know if you have something or ideas where to find one. I am in Western...

    Anchor(ing) improvement/ suggestions

Looking to do something with my anchor set up and hoping to get some suggestions on what my options are. The boat is being set up for our intended use as mainly fishing with extended overnight trips on the north Pacific coast. I run a couple different anchor lines for this purpose but will...

97 Merc 5.7 Tbolt shift interupt wiring

Have updated the 5.7 in my boat from an '81 to a '97 with the Thunderbolt IV ignition system. It has been a pretty strait forward swap as far as the wiring goes but it does not have any provision that I can find in the harness for the shift interrupt or cutout switch. Does anyone know if I can...

Does anyone have available or know where I can find a set of 80 deg 4" exhaust elbows? The set I have are 3"x4". Not having much luck with it. Also looking for the 4" wet exh bonnets but have seen them in several locations on line. Thanks!

Raw water pump/5.7 Merc with serpentine belt

Upgraded my engine and need some help with mounting the raw water pump. Original engine had v-belts and the newer one has a serpentine. Came across a link once before but cannot for the life of me find it again on the parts required to mount it. If memory serves me well, it should be mounted on...

    Keel chip/scrape repairs

Hope this doesn't come across as a stupid question. I have an older Sea Ray ('81) which has several chips and scrapes on the keel from loading onto an improperly set up trailer from the previous owner. I have a new trailer coming but am looking to clean up the damage done. In a few spots you can...
