What's the furthest some of you guys overhang past the end of your dock/slip?

I'm in a slip that doesn't limit how far out we hang past the end of the dock. I am currently 45' +/- in a 40' slip. I'm considering moving up this spring to a Sea Ray that would put me at about 52' overall. Borderline insane...that's a lotta boat hanging out the back. But it just might be...

Any of you guys watch Sailing Doodles on the ole YouTube?

I've been a follower for quite some time, on and off again. It generally depends on how he's crewed (which is currently of high quality). For a month or so now he's been running a 2000/2001 (I forget) 340DA down in Florida. Last night I watched a recent episode where he smoked his starboard...

CSR has become almost unusable for me

I might be the only one but in the AM's it takes minutes upon minutes to load the site, my posts don't go through half the time, everything takes a very long time. Then, suddenly, it seems to work again. All new features since the upgrade. It's really unfortunate. About 90% of the online...

Trip Report - Running Middle/Northern Lake Michigan (East Side)

This past Sunday we returned from a 15 day boat trip up the eastern side of Lake Michigan, briefly hopping over to Lake Huron. It's by far the most miles I've run in a single trip at just shy of 600 total miles. Overall, it was a really great trip. The boat performed flawlessly in all manner...

Season #5(ish) on the cheapo Amazon EVA Flooring - tear off and replace

We've had quite a few threads over the years on the cheap EVA flooring alternatives to SeaDek. I installed it on my upper and lower platforms in 2018. When I replaced my swim platform in 2021 I also installed it on the new one. The flooring on my upper platform lasted about 5 seasons. Zero...

Merc combo fuel pump + raw water pump - anybody replace them?

Greetings, folks. This weekend I discovered one of my fuel pumps is leaking a bit of oil. There are markings on the bottom of the water side but I can't find any markings on the fuel side. I'd really like to replace only the fuel pump if possible. Any of you guys with late 90's 7.4's ever...

I can't be the only one fascinated by this Titan sub ordeal

Any of you guys also following this? The BBC has a nice running update going. It certainly sounds like the occupants of the sub are still alive based on the sounds they were picking up overnight. I hope they find 'em. What a movie this is going to make someday.

I might just leave my boat in the barn until July 4

Man I can't recall a spring quite like this. One nice week in April and now we've been stuck in this crap pattern...with no end in sight. Makes it hard to get motivated to launch the boat. Inside she's spotless, dry, not getting bird crap on her...not getting snowed on....ughh.

Interesting new tech from Apple - is an iPhone 14 your new EPIRB?

I'm due for my routine iPhone upgrade so I've been reading about the features on the new iPhone 14. I just learned that the 14's can communicate via satellite if you're out of range of cell towers. This is new for this version of iPhone and is fascinating (to me), it even enables location...

Any suggestions for removing scratches from isinglass?

I just wrapped up season #3 with my canvas/glass and I must admit I haven't been the best caretaker of the isinglass sections. Have you guys had any experience, good or bad, with the myriad of different plastic/glass polish products available out there? Thanks in advance!

This just seems to be how my long boat trips start...always

I'm 120 miles into a 210 mile trip up to northern Michigan. We'll turn around and head back at the end of next week with any luck. Yesterday was departure day. 4.5 hours on-plane was the plan for the day. Back story - I had my marina repair my generator last week (it needed capacitors)...

    Pulling tubes with the dinghy

I finally pulled the trigger on gear to tow toys from my Walker Bay. My kids have been asking since I mentioned the possibility last year. Last Saturday was our first time out with the setup and I couldn't be more pleased. I was able to run one to three three kids on the tube with my dainty...

I believe NOAA is run by a group of drunk robots

This is currently the forecast for my area for this coming Saturday. A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8am, then a chance of showers between 8am and 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Any Lake Travis boaters around here?

Greetings from the far north, fellow Americans. Hoping for some recommendations if possible. I've got a wedding to attend in Austin at the end of July. We'll be arriving such that we have a free day before the wedding day. We're considering renting a pontoon boat. Any of you folks have...

What would you do - masthead light w/obstructed stern light

I typically only drive the boat after dark a couple times per year. More often we'll park the Sea Ray and use the dinghy for any evening activities. This past Sunday I took the fam to watch some fireworks a few miles away from our home slip. Not a big cruise but it's all no-wake speed for me...

How about this spring weather, Great Lakes guys?

I'm having a tough time staying positive about the whole boating situation so far this year. The 10 day forecast is mirroring the way I feel - damp, cloudy and cold. What the hell? Maybe this is exactly the Spring I need to convince my wife we should move to Florida...

You diesel guys sure aren't kicking our butts quite as badly this year

Too much more of this you'll only be able to brag about superior handling and torque!!! :):)

Any of you guys shoot trap/skeet?

I'm not much of a long gunner, more of a pistol guy. But I did win an AR15 last year in an American Legion raffle. So yesterday I went out with a good friend to sight the AR and shoot it for the first time. After that he took me over to show me skeet/trap, which I've never done before. What...

Any of you have good/bad experiences with inflatable kayaks?

My kids have been asking for a couple years now. I think I can finally trust them to scoot around the marina/river on their own this year. This Intex Explorer K2 seems to have a ton of good reviews. Priced decently. What am I missing? Anyone have anything better? Bad idea all around...
