Port Fuel pump only runs with Starboard Ignition switches off?

Check your grounds connected to the engines around the bell housing. I had an issue last year similar. Randomly found a green ground wire with it separated from the ring connector. Bad/disconnected grounds can cause all kinds of issues.

    v-drive vibration

Think of it this way if shaft or props are out of balance. With a car that has a tire of out balance, they usually show up at a certain speed, than goes away above or below that speed. Similar situation. Our season is so short, try to live with it till the fall and diagnose when out for season.

    Westerbeke running rich

Plugs aren't the issue. Go ahead and change if you don't know how long they have been in there but you have a carburetor issue. Choke staying on or internals need to be cleaned out. Black smoke is too much gas-track that cause down.

Battery Voltage Drop - Any suggestions?

The alternator does not "run the engine". The batteries supply voltage for the engine to run. The alternator keeps batteries charged. I agree, check water in the batteries and than get them tested.

    My 4th weekend sucked.

Quick simple question, Can you share your insurance company name? Seems like they were very responsive and accommodating. Don't mean to sidetrack this thread, but the information might help many. I am currently looking. Thanks and good luck.

    Hurricane prep

Hello all. Hope everyone in the path of Elsa is ready and prepped. They say by the end of the week when the storm gets to the north east it will be a tropical storm with 30-40MPH winds. I will add extra lines to my mooring chain, but bigger question is whether to leave the complete camper canvas...

    180 deg operating temp?

In my opinion, you are fine. And the actual gauges are known to be unreliable. My 350mags run right around that and have for years. I think it is important to watch for changes in running temp and than get concerned. Have you checked your heat exchangers for cleanliness?

Engine stalls and only starts several hours later

"My boat won't run, tell me why..". You need to put a little more effort into this before coming to the internet and asking a question that has 500 possible answers! Spark, fuel, electric! Do some homework, than come back

It is going to be a long summer of bad boaters.

Love the internet....Before you go bashing someone or a situation you might want to get the facts straight. I know the boat and owner. He is very qualified and has had that boat for many years. He had a transmission cable brake while it was in forward or reverse. Had no control and did an...

    Serpentine belt pulley not aligned - 2007 240 SD 5.7l 300hp

That isn't a threaded hole for keeping pulley on. It is for removing the pulley with a puller. Would be very rare if that pulley is walking off the shaft. I would check the bolts that attach the raw water pump to the engine block. Something will be very obvious. There are only 2 bolts that hold...

    Electrical issues

They key to this, is that the radio works while plugged into shore power but not disconnected. Not familiar with an 89, but 12 volts is 12 volts. You have a bad battery(s). I know you checked them, but the charger is supplying 12volts for the radio when plugged into shore power. Hence working...

Engines hard to start - only sometime

Fly, nothing you can really do externally. "Leaking" means the internals of the injector are worn and the fuel that stays in the system is leaking into the cylinders. Hence doing the residual pressure test suggestion. If you aren't able to do the work, the hard part will be finding someone...

Engines hard to start - only sometime

You have fuel injectors, not "Bowls" which are on carburetors. My theory is that you have leaking fuel injectors. Hence you needing to advance the throttle which gets more air into the engine and it starts. If fuel is leaking into the cylinders, that might be why you hear a different sound on...

    Vacuflush woes

I have one of those accordion style plungers. And as Jerry said, put water in bowl. I also try to tilt the plunger to the side to get water inside of it. As was said, this allows the water to part of the force of pushing clog downline. Also, I would leave vacuum hooked up to help it "pull" the...

    High RPM cut out

Replace the ignition coil. Had 2 fail last year(twin engine). Same symptoms. I have never had a coil fail on any engine, than 2 in one year! They get hot and break down. Easy simple fix.

Can you reset a Mercruiser ECM?

That myth of auto reset is just that, a myth. If you have confirmed spark on all plugs, you have fuel pressure and compression, it should fire I would think. I don't have any experience with older ECM and am amazed if a motor that old would have issues. Did you mess with the timing/move the...

    Starter Slave Solenoid

Hello All, Boat back in for season. 2001 310, twin 350 MAG, Vdrive. Last year the port engine would only "click" occasionally when trying to start. Seems to be more often this year. Does anyone know if there are slave solenoids on these motors or is it directly to the starter solenoid. I have...

    DSC/Icom VHF Retrofit

Just replaced my Raymarine original VHF, finally died! Bought a Icom M330-11. Had to make an adapter plate to get it in the original radio spot. It has these connections and wondering if anyone has tips to connect it to my Garmin Chartplotter. The Garmin is probably 8 years old and works fine...

Hurth V Drive prop shaft removal

I don't think he said an alignment is required, but suggested. the engines shift/mounts rust and the alignment could change. More of a preventative measure. Better to know than to ignore. Not a fun job, but better than the results of it being out...

    Anchor rode and winter storage?

not sure what you are trying to avoid here. I don't see any advantage to removing it. Mine has just stayed in the storage locker below the windlass for 10 years. The only thing I have done is reversed the rope so that I am now using the other end of the rope to the anchor.
