    Boat Bottom

When we got ours, the bottom hadn't been done in many years. I used a pressure washer to get the old paint off the bottom. I then put on a barrier coat and then the ablative. The longest I keep ours in the water is for about a week. Other than that, I keep it on the trailer. So, my paint lasts...

A Dog. You say you have one? Lets see...

Here is my owner. Saffron loves the water. But she has yet to grasp the idea of a boat. She gets on the boat and is off the other side to enjoy swimming. She is a pure bred Blue Heeler. She is just one of the three we call "the Spice Girls" On a side note, never name a dog after anything really...

Kenyon Kiss Butane stove in 260da

Our old Kenyon alcohol stove seals were bad when we bought our 300DA. Trying to find seals from Kenyon or anyone, for that matter, was a dead end. With no genny for the electric side and not being with shore power much, we have the single burner butane stoves that get set up on the back on a...

    Breaking Auto Window

When I worked in Boise, the local CAT dealer had a box of belt cutters with glass breakers. If they got to know you, you could just grab what you wanted. I have them in each vehicle and extras for other vehicles. They have worked great when needed. Those belt cutters are wider than most on the...

    First Boat

I would get that set up out of the bilge. Looks like a fiberglass bbq, just waiting to happen. Plus, that isn't exactly legal. Being in Kelso, you have your sheriff patrol, USCG, the Oregon State police and the Columbia County Sheriff patrol. Any one could give you a ticket and park your boat...

    First Boat

Without being there to actually put eyes on it, it looks like the coolant tank for the heat exchanger. It should be for coolant to circulate through the motor while cooler sea water cools the coolant. It's basically and liquid to liquid radiator. Your heating system may or may not be a part of...

    First Boat

I think that BS meter needs a calibration. Here in the PNW (Pacific North West), there is folks putting built motors in all kinds of things. Look at Chris from the Youtube channel B is for Build. He put two LSX motors that were over built in a 30 plus year old Italian Express Cruiser. But he...

    Damaged running gear

I'm not an expert either, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. Seriously though, going off of past experiences, is what I was basing the comment off of. That discoloration looks like, what is normally from the start of corrosion or exposure to elements. My experiences are from...

    Damaged running gear

As I read through this post, one thing has been on my mind since the photo of the removed rudder from the shaft. In that first photo, at the top right portion, there is an old crack there. Slightly visible but a different color as the "new" break. That rudder, in my opinion, was damaged before...

    Mid Winter Checkup

You guys make me feel like I've got it good. First weekend, this last weekend, of a tiny bit of snow with grapple on that then 1/2" of freezing rain. I tarp the boat in the driveway due to all the rain. We only see a few snow events a year, at best. Sometimes a few days and sometimes for a few...

Alpha One Gen 2 transom assembly interchangeability question

You can believe what you want. I know what I have. Both through documentation and what I have done to maintain my drives. There are drives with the top dipstick and those without. Ones without have the inboard monitor...

    Covid - crap

My wife had a class mate die in a motorcycle wreck. Hit by a truck and spread a half mile along the highway. Same thing. His widdow is sitting pretty damn good right now. Hospital, county and the state all got their due hammering on that one.

    Covid - crap

Yes they were. Some local reports were saying $1.2mill per. Others said it was closer to $500k plus some.

    Covid - crap

Wife turned 50 and got shingles the very next day. Thought it was just a rash, until it started hurting very bad. I got pneumonia due to mold allergies, real bad a couple of years ago. Add in a tooth that went septic and I got real sick. I finally went in to a doctor and he made arrangements...

Alpha One Gen 2 transom assembly interchangeability question

Nope. Not a Gen 1. As per my manuals, survey and delivery build sheets. Only some were equipped with the Drive Unit Gear Lube Monitor. My drives have the drain in the lower, the vent/fill in the upper and the dip stick on the upper top. And no lube monitor bottle or line attachment point drilled...

Alpha One Gen 2 transom assembly interchangeability question

My 1992 doesn't have the remote oil reservoirs. Both of my drives are Alpha 1 Gen 2.

    Diesel Fuels

I run a pint of 2 stroke oil to every tank. And it helps. Less nailing in the cooler temps. More mpg. I have seen as much as 4mpg gain. Another good reason to get away from that crap. And suffer it does.

    Diesel Fuels

I opted for a new tractor that had a full 10 year warranty. So, with that, it has the optic sensor in the IP and can't run the dark fuels. I can't even run the 2 stroke oil in it like I do the pick up. Burning fuel oil would be nice. But even that is up in price due to the housing that uses it...

    Diesel Fuels

Diesel, Kerosine and Fuel Oil are not the same. Kerosine is a clear fuel. Usually burns cleaner and is a little more volatile than diesel or fuel oil. See, JP-1 or Jet A. Kerosine is a paraffin oil. While diesel also has paraffin in it, diesel is what remains after the kerosine is removed from...
