That looks like a nice boat! If it is hard to keep straight at that speed you probably have excessive play either in the cable or the outdrive steering lever.
11 years between post #11 & post 12....took quite a while to get a camera! A couple of thoughts about why the outdrive went on hard: 1. Check the driveshaft length to make sure it is not to long. 2. . Check the big o-ring to make sure it did not get pinched during the install.
After seeing that you have an OMC, I maybe of little help as I have Mercruiser. If you are sure it is a 302 Ford pull the spark arrestor off the carburetor to see if it is a 2 barrel or 4 barrel. With that information go to your local parts supply and tell them you need the parts for a 1974 Ford...
