Thoughts on going from 7.4 MPI Gen VI to Carb Gen IV

Gen 6 parts are not hard to find, there is a new version of them readily available. I bought new heads last year, available from tons of places, and I also looked at new shortblocks, too. Beware, there are 2 versions, 3/8" or 7/16" mounting holes for all the fore and aft bolt on accessories. My...

Mercruiser 7.4L MPI Horizon distributor timing

See my post above. Are you sure it's TDC on the compression stroke and not a full turn off?

    Anchor Rode Upgrade

No standard connector (that I know of) will pass thru the windlass, and welding sounds like a bad idea. Recycle or give it away. I will use mine for rigging/hauling logs at my sawmill. I'll probably find a use for the 200ft of rope, too. Oh, I see you are local. What marina?

    Anchor Rode Upgrade

There was no manual with the boat and the ones I found online all specified 5/16 and no mention of others. I will have to go over and take a look at it. I didn't think about Fawcetts as it's sort of local, but their "Anchor Rodes and Chains" category has neither of them in it, only accessories...

    Anchor Rode Upgrade

Not enough cruising time to have reliable data, but based on a few runs, 8kn is .6m/g, 11kn is .4m/g and 18kn is .3m/g. 11 is only a slightly raised bow, and 13-14 is impossible to maintain and the bow is as high as the helm. It slips back to 12, every time. We ran up the Chester river with my...

    DOJ lawsuit against Campbell Soup

You probably don't eat tomato sandwiches either I bet. Damn, now I want one of them.. It's hard to imagine a life without Bloody Mary's (with Clamato!), V8 and tomato juice! YUM

    Anchor Rode Upgrade

I'm looking at exactly that chain (and a new swivel), $908 for 275', plus $350 for shipping at Defender. Puts it on-par with free shipping at other places. WM wants $500 more. I'm using 275' as a bunch of places sell it by the 1/2 barrel and the per foot price is higher. When we were out with my...

    DOJ lawsuit against Campbell Soup

Those Goldfish better be Old Bay style! Tomato Bisque blows away the boring Tomato. And Progresso is generally much better, but both can almost kill a small village with the salt content. Maybe the DOJ should look at the Susquehanna River killing the Chesapeake, too. That's a decades old fight...

    Anchor Rode Upgrade

The AC's seem to be pretty rare. I'm not aware of any around, nor did I get any response from any here last year. It seems that there are 100 times as many other SRs, Dancer, ECs, and SBs, all with just a cockpit aft. I believe they all have aft located engines though. Mid are pretty well...

    Anchor Rode Upgrade

The rope on our anchor rode has reached end of life and I'm trying to decide what the best action is. I pondered resplicing it from the other end but after removing it from the locker there is a lot of wear over a good bit of it, so that is no longer an option. I found a handful of threads...

The Grim reaper strikes. Official death thread

Jaimoe is the only original member left. I got to see various incarnations of them up thru Dickey's last performance in 2018, at the Peach Music Festival. Warren Hayes did amazing Allman solo acoustic sets on sunday mornings there for a number of years, too. Anything Allman there was amazing...

    Which Westerbeke 4.5kw Gas

The BCGTC does not come in a 4.5, but the BCGB does. My point was how to distinguish between the models using my experience with the 2 as a reference. Your control panel appears to be a BCGB. You can find all the manuals and sales brochures on the Westerbeke site, including old models.

    Which Westerbeke 4.5kw Gas

That's the same control as I have on my BCGB, and typical for all these models based on my research. I replaced a blown BCGTC 9.6, which has the round air cleaner with a BCGB 7.0 with the square plastic air cleaner. The BCGB has a multi pin connector for connection to the boat wiring, and the...

    Which Westerbeke 4.5kw Gas

Got a picture? That would help. I'm not familiar with the BCG, but the other 3 look pretty similar as they use the same engine, but the generators are different. BCGB is 1800rpm, the other 2 are 3600 and the E is for electronic ignition.

Mercruiser 7.4L MPI Horizon distributor timing

When I rebuilt mine last winter, #1 was slightly clockwise from from centerline of the engine, viewed toward the timing belt end. 1 tooth either way made a large difference, counterclockwise from CL, or way further clockwise. This corresponds with the diagram on page 4B-6 of the service manual...

    Xantrex TruCharge 2 Indicators

I've been troubleshooting battery bank issues and finally located my issue, boiled almost dry it seems, but the charger does not charge after a fill, nor respond to settings changes and the 2 Stage LED is yellow. The manual does not mention anything about any yellow indicator and all others are...

    Battery drain troubleshooting

From the Supplement wiring diagram. The Main feed at the top comes from the switched side of the main switch, stbd bank. 4 Co Monitor clearly labled.

    Battery drain troubleshooting

The CO detectors are connected to the MDB in the DC panel which DOES go through the main switches, but no switch in the MDB to turn them off otherwise.

    Battery drain troubleshooting

4 CO detectors FireboyXintex, 4ma draw. They could theoretically run 10+ years on 2x series 27 batteries without a charge. I don't recall seeing them in the wiring diagrams, so not sure where they connect but still should not matter. Turning off the breakers is still key. I'd rather not have to...

    Battery drain troubleshooting

Some good points. Salt air is not generally an issue in the north chesapeake. It's super clean with minimal signs of corrosion anywhere. It went 5 months last winter with no ac power and still had plenty of charge. CO detectors are new. Alternators can be disconnected easily. Battery isolator is...
