240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement bimini sway bar (part #1770066) for a 2008 SD240? I was taking the top down the other day and the bar fell off, bounced off the swim platform and sank to the bottom of LI Sound.
37 5/8” is the length of the exposed portion of the bar. You’ll need to add whatever length is inside the ball fitting.

Has anyone installed the VesselView mobile on their 240 Sundeck? I have a 2003 SD and it has smartcraft. I believe it is the SC1000 Display Monitor on the dash (picture below). I purchased the VesselView mobile and it works great, but as soon as I hook it up I lose all analog gauges on my dash. I'm thinking I need some sort of junction box since the smart craft is already hooked up. I checked under the helm and there was no junction box.

2004 240 Sundeck. I need to replace the large bunks on the original Wesco trailer. They're 4x10. Wesco is local to me but say they only use 4x6 now. Anybody dealt with this issue? If 4x6 will work, do you just use more brackets to mount it to the trailer frame? Is extruded aluminum an option?

Thanks.

I used two 2 x 10 scabbed together. I then placed pvc strips on top. Works great. I ended up staining them black so it wasn't bare wood looking.

We use VesselView Mobile on our '05 240 - if you want the dash gauges & mobile to both work you'll need a splitter:

On our dash the SmartCraft display is in the tachometer, so we needed the harness to go from the splitter to the tach:

We bought an inexpensive Lenovo android pad to use for the display, mounted it in front of the speedometer on a RAM mount. It runs VesselView & Navionics split-screen, and is much easier to see than the tiny display:

Hope this helps - VesselView is great, we have different displays set up including one with only speed & RPM in bigger numbers for pulling skiers/tubes/etc.

I think we have a bad float switch. Pump runs continuously unless fuse in battery area is pulled. When switched from helm switch pump runs and pumps water as it should. Any suggestions on how to get it removed? What are those knobs on the side for? Thanks.

The knobs feel like they're just where the float pivots.

It looks like there's a screw in the front. Phillips? I couldn't get a screwdriver to catch the head......

Thanks.

That needs a good cleaning. You may have debris holding the float up.

Yes, first check for it being stuck "up". If you rotate that knob, you should easily feel and hear the float switch being lifted up and back down. Look at a bilge pump float switch to make more sense of this. What you are seeing in your bilge is simply a guard keeping large debris out. Otherwise, yes, just unscrew it to remove it.

I hit it pretty good today with a hose and sprayer. It moves freely. I'll try and get it out and see.

Thanks.

I do and currently use it on my iPhone, although am experiementing with running on a dedicated iPad. I like the Android setup that JDinTN shared in a subsequent post.

I had to install a hub and then get an additional cable to go from the hub to the SC gauge.

Hub: 878492K14
Cable: Mercury Tachometer Harness - 84-879979T11

Essentially:
1. Install Hub (878492K14)
2. Move cable from engine to SC gauge to Hub
3. Install new cable (84-879979T11) from Hub to SC gauge

I use fixed bimini support poles, but I use Seamax Bimini Rear Support Pole Kit adjustable pole for the sway bar. Use grease so it doesnt seize in the salt air

Any ideas on a replacement for the peanut switch pad? The leds are all lit up, but the soft push switches won't turn anything on.

In minutes your can transform your SeaRay's electrical into a modern functioning system.

They shoulda proof read their website before the published it.

Next winter I am installing the rocker switch panel techmitch posted, I like the idea of being able to change out an individual switch should one go bad

Hi,

I’m a two time boat owner, looking for my next ride. My first boat was a Crownline 23’ dual console, which I traded for a Tidewater 22 CC. While I like to fish, I learned that I like the layout and space of a dual console more.

Right now, I am looking at a 220 or 240 Sundeck (there are several older models available locally). Does anyone know what model year(s) these underwent significant upgrades or changes? I looked at a 2003 220 and felt it was the ideal size or us (I will be trailering it with an Infiniti QX80 (8500 lb towing/1440 lb payload), but only wish it had more storage, such as an in-floor ski locker. The 2001 240 I looked at seemed enormous in comparison (much larger than two feet more). I love the layouts and amenities of the current models and ideally would want an outboard, but those appear to be beyond my budget.

Tomorrow, I’m going to look at a 2006 240 that looks to have been meticulously maintained and just had major service items done (including manifolds/risers). Any of you tow this with a half-ton pickup? Is the 5.0 liter MPI/Bravo III enough “umph” for a full boat of people? The Crownline I had weighed about 500 lbs more but had the Volvo 5.7, which was more than adequate.

My budget is around 30K but will spend more for a gem. I’m in the Tampa Bay area.

Thank you for any and all advice!

My suggestions for you or anyone else considering the older 240 Sundeck (~2001-2010):
- Get the 350 MAG MPI or 383 Stroker. I love the power of our 350 and I think I'd be dissapointed with water sports with anything less
- Watch out for the earlier ones and make sure that you are new enough to have fuel injection, the newer Cool Fuel module (although I had to replace mine with a new one this year), and the smartcraft capability. I don't know if it possible get get one w/o these features, but I would sure miss them!
- I have the lounger and single chair set up. I am wishing I had targeted one with two chairs. Silver lining is that I'm usually at the helm, but when I'm not I sure wish I could sit next to the driver.
- Watch out for "Bravoitis". I spent way too many months chasing a cooling problem that was caused by this ... fix was a relatively easily installed through hull raw water intake
